it s time for a fresh new release from the apollonia stable, and this time around we unveil four groovy gems from shonky and tolga fidan working together for the first time, giving us a winning combination and one which is sure to satisfy fans of both artists. the first track dynamo sets the tone for the ep, the bassline has a deadly groove, while playful effects dance around at the top end creating an immersive atmosphere. intergalactic vibes. after that comes bastille , which features a similarly jaunty rhythm with a variety of bleeps, chirps and twangs layered on top on each other to give the track its depth and character, while a menacing b-line does its dirty work in the low end.on the flip we get micro-ondes , a mysterious into the undiscovered lands of planet funk. you feel as though you ve been transported to another world, where warped creatures lurk, calling out for your attention. as for the bass, its rhythm is utterly contagious. finally americana completes the collection, maintaining the unusual use of sound prevalent throughout the ep it utilises a myriad distorted instruments. support in the low end comes via a tough, punchy bass riff.
one of the core members of the apollonia family is the mastermind behind the label’s latest release. shonky steps up with his first solo ep since ‘plombiére’ which dropped in july 2016. full of funky flavours and that distinct ‘shonky style’, the new ep consists of four brand new tracks produced exclusively for apollonia. each track emanates its own unique vibe, while reppin’ shonk’s irresistible groove. on side a we have ‘tyrolien’, a jaunty number with bright tones and a tight, rolling groove. shonky injects it with a series of unusual fx and what sounds like an wizened old creature, speaking about ‘the foulest stench in the air’. it’s a superb combination and sets the ep off to a great start.next up is ‘beat street’ which has a heavier set of beats, which stomp down as a marauding b-line gets to work. tiny fizzes and cheeps in the background add depth, sounding like robotic birds at play in the wild. the track is minimal in its make up, but deep and engrossing, classic shonky material.flip the vinyl over and we have ‘torro rosso’, a bold, stomping workout with fresh percussion and a jovial analogue riff. as the bubbly low end percolates way down below, the beats pump the track along and an extra layer of analogue funk enters the fray midway through. the final track is titled ‘serpent à,, sonnette’ and swithes the vibe. it’s loose, meandering and twisted, with a hypnotic bassline and super sharp percussion. this one is going to get the dance floor locked into a groove, as it progresses a sweet, chirpy melody brightens the mood. feel the glow!once again shonky demonstrates his ability to produce groovy dance floor cuts that have their own unique fingerprint, danceable, unusual and utterly captivating. grab the new ep now!
one of the founding members of apollonia, shonky was responsible for his label’s very first release back in 2012 with ‘the minneapolis touch’. outside of working on the trio’s debut lp ‘tour a tour’, shonky has been relatively quiet on the solo tip. here on apollonia’s 25th release we’re treated to four new cuts from the berlin-based parisian, kicking off with plombiè,,re (plumber in english). shonky injects a variety of unusual sounds, which revolve around a jaunty bassline, while voices dip in and out of the background, repeating the mantra ‘house music’ together with other difficult to decipher vocal clips. the track has a catchy rhythm that bounces along with aplomb. up next ‘house me’ is a sleazy, mischievous cut with a deadly low end and a seductive vocal that urges you to ‘house me’. as the bassline rumbles, high pitched effects add a hypnotic element to the track. badboy business.on the b-side we have ‘perchee’, which is powered by cleverly layered percussion, which is almost ‘live’ sounding. another one of those ‘shonky’ basslines gets us straight into the groove, with utterly contagious beats – this is one to shake the dance floor down its core. finally, ‘cosmopolis’ has that inner city realness flowing through with the chatter of a street corner in the background, a killer b-line and one of those classic vocal samples that is oh so familiar and gets you nodding your head as soon as you hear it. and there it is, four dance floor cuts with plenty of depth and groove in true shonky style… c est formidable!
while feeling very honored and excited to have three extremely talented artists feature on his new real tone records release, shonky the french berlin-based producer who is also a part of apollonia, has asked larry heard, delano smith and the martinez brothers a couple of different questions each to give us more of an insight to them and their artistry.

dan ghenacia, the force behind the inaugural label of parisian house talent freak n chic, returns alongside his closest allies dyed soundorom and shonky to launch their new imprint – apollonia. sharing the same roots, the same tastes and the same musical vision, apollonia was a natural, if not inevitable progression for the three friends.well mainly focus on releasing our own music, but of course we are also really open-minded to sign any producers we all enjoy, says dyed.the label will serve as a platform for the trio‟,,,,,s productions, representing new beginnings based on a solid family that have already done much to shape the underground house scene, in paris and beyond. if the former era was a learning curve for all three, in both the music and business sense, one has high expectations for the quality of production on apollonia to come !shonkys ep the minneapolis touch will mark the first release for the label. forthcoming in february 2012, it features three tracks of strong house grooves, hynoptic melodies and hushed vocals for his signature sultry sound.
its fitting that this summer season sees months of culprit planning and scheming come to fruition. a relationship that began almost four years ago, between culprits la crew and parisian native shonky, has finally been realized, with the mercurial frenchman stepping up for his first full culprit release, >oasis<. shonky first ventured to la when droog hosted him on the now defunct terrace space at avalon in late 2007. since then he and culprit founders droog have become close cohorts, sharing the same musical wavelength, having playied together half-a-dozen times at locations ranging from miami, barcelona and los angeles. shonky was finally introduced on the label earlier this year, when he and dyed soundorom collaborated on a remix of lee foss >your turn girl<

as a coproducer of jennifer cardini he could already rest on some laurels, but he still has own plans. after a lonesome 12inch on freak n chic this likeable party terrorist, not goes free of charge with paris anarchos like dj:terry: co-operates, now to the attack. sub static presents two properly psychedelic minimum racketeers as they could hardly fall out more individualistically.correctly fitted with spring beats deliver the through ball for precisely placed schizo chords and who is still responsible there, has missed the takeoff. hypnotically the sounds mill themselves by the bodies and hatch behind the diaphragm, only to press ahead at the right moment like alien out of ripley. techno, how he raves and dances. to one howls, yesyes
all four tracks on this ep fit perfectly into a modern yet minimal dj set while soundlike olivier has been raiding his sähkö collection mixing it up with his own style an skills. if you like the dryness of sleeparchive (zzz) together with bouncing minimal then this is one release that wont let you down. played by ivan smagghe, madga, richie hawtin
