JUSTIN VAN DER VOLGEN REMIXES (VINYL ONLY)
12 Inch 31.05.17
a new my rules release from the always on-point justin van der volgen featuring two previously unreleased remixes that showcase his varied and unique style. the a-side sees him take both the original and spencer parker remixes found on the the 2016 shit robot single lose control and through editing, blending and layering of fx concocts one serious bomb of a mega mix. think classic dj bootleg remixes on legendary labels like razormaid, disconet and hot tracks. the b-side is an altogether different affair where justin dispenses with all of the original music and only keeps the vocal from felix dickinson s 2014 acid jam burning flame. what comes out the other end sounds like lee perry and murk made a tune once they got back from a sleazy ny after hours. early plays and support from gerd janson, john talabot, tim sweeney. vinyl only.

SOULS ON ICE
12 Inch 18.01.17
autofacs gonna be a new one to you, but the names behind it—juan maclean and marcus lambkin, a.k.a. shit robot—most certainly are not. the dfa house, disco, and techno veterans have long been friends, sharing bills around the world, vocalists on records, engineers on mixing boards. for a while now, they ve also been collaborating in the studio, and it s with tremendous honor that we get to be the label that presents the world with the fruits of their labors. souls on ice is a snarled, fierce, aggressive four-tracker, all of it recorded live, which gives it a distinct loopiness and patience. the ep starts off on a bumpin techno tip and slowly drifts towards a spacier, groovier house sound. charged and punchy, its the kind of dance floor kick in the pants only wizards like juan and marcus can deliver. key selling points. debut release by autofac, a production duo comprised of dfa veterans juan maclean and shit robot. full international press and dj promo campaign.

WHAT FOLLOWS (2X12 LP + MP3)
2x12 Inch LP 04.05.16
marcus lambkin aka shit robot returns with his third full length album for dfa records, entitled what follows. the 11-track album was conceived and recorded at marcus’ home studio in a small town outside stuttgart, worked on in various new york studios and then mixed over the course of 11 intense & coffee-fuelled days in dfa label mate juan maclean’s new hampshire studio. the album follows lambkin’s previous long-players, from the cradle to the rave (2010) and we got a love (2014), which drew plaudits from the likes of the guardian and pitchfork, and featured reggie watts and james murphy among the array of contributors.
the double vinyl lp comes in a gatefold sleeve with download code included.

FEEL LIKE MOVIN / WE GOT A LOVE
12 Inch 16.10.13
dfa is proud to announce a new split single featuring both the juan maclean and shit robot. the single highlights the warped and wonky piano house both acts have become famous for. the juan maclean track features long time vocalist nancy whang (also of lcd soundsystem), who helps deliver yet another wildly catchy dance floor anthem, in line with prior collaborative successes “happy house” and “you are my destiny.” shit robot brings in famed stand up comedian (and closet soul vocalist) reggie watts whose incredible voice glides from falsetto to baritone in a single verse. the combination of the deep bass lines, wild voice and piano stabs weaving in and out make this one of the strongest and unique singles in the shit robot catalog. both shit robot & the juan maclean have full length albums due in 2014 on dfa records. limited to 500 stamped and numbered copies, includes digital download code.

TEENAGE BASS / SPACE RACE
12 Inch 30.05.12
shit robot returns with his first new material since the release of his debut long-player, >from the cradle to the rave<. after spending much of 2010 and 2011 touring the globe with his live show – including a string of dates opening/performing with lcd soundsystem during their final shows in nyc - the rebooted robot is back with >the green machine<. the first result of his stuttgart/new york studio adventures is a double-header of dancefloor jams, >teenage bass b/w >space race<, which is released on vinyl and digital on dfa on may 21 2012. its the first in a series of releases called >the green machine<, which will culminate in an album early next year. lead cut >teenage bass< rides a rude ebm bassline and rave alert sirens, before expanding further with key changing chords and a defining arpeggiator. the hypnotic >space race< is a distant relative of 2007s chasm – a meandering, melodic, star-gazing robo-techno workout

ANSWERING MACHINE - INCL MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE REMIX
12 Inch 27.09.11
from the very outset, the m.c.d.e. remix of shit robots >answering machine< picks up in a completely different realm from marcus lambkins original, which appears on his 2010 debut, from the cradle to the rave. the stuttgart-based producer has replaced janine >planningtorock< rostrons slowly rising vocal opener with outerspace emanations that fade as they drift into a constellation of wide house grooves and deep bass. rostrons own pizzo remix is up next, and in (a)typical fashion, she takes the song and shifts its mood by clearing away the dancier elements of its predecessor in favor of a foundation of strings in every form: plucked pizzicato notes, low cellos tones, and high pitched violins that flit through. last up is another rostron creation, the whisper remix, which actually outpaces lambkins version in bpm, but is lighter all the same. here, she uses synths almost as a wash of white noise – a whisper, if you will – and only drops heavier vocals here and there along the songs rustling path.

LOSING MY PATIENCE
12 Inch 27.04.11
in its original incarnation, shit robots -losing my patience- – a choice cut from 2010s from the cradle to the rave — strikes a balance between iciness and warmth, with hot chip frontman alexis taylors soulful vocals melting the tracks frosty synthlines. now, hot chip and unabombers remix the track and redefine its feel. hot chips new take on the single mystifies the original with deeply cut grooves, squelching bass and taylors heartbreaking, trilling vocals, pushed to lonesome front and center. the whole procession builds to a climax of chiming keys, striking percussion and synth melodies that corkscrew firmly into your head. the uks unabombers – the dj duo of luke cowdrey and justin crawford – take a cosmic approach, laying down synths that stretch toward infinity and holding off on vocals till near the songs midpoint. the dub remix gains traction and energy in its latter stages, with a heady mix of piercing synth squeals and taylors vocalizations set on repeat, like a mantra urging party goers to the dancefloor

TUFF ENUFF / TAKE EM UP (LIMITED EDITION MICHAEL MAYER / JOHN TALABOT REMIXES)
12 Inch 22.02.11
head-turning singles >tuff enough< and >take em up< from marcus >shit robot< lambkins fantastic debut, from the cradle to the rave, get reinvented by two of the most talented dj/producers working in electronic music. on the a-side is germanys michael mayers epically inventive take on >tuff enuff<. less muscular than lambkins original, the remix softens things up by placing supple keys under the hardened exterior. the climax is an otherworldly listening experience that literally builds to take off. on the flip, john talabots remix of >take em up< starts like a laidback house party that builds just enough energy when its relocated under disco lights. the haunting opening — a swirling, ghostly blend of elliptical vocals and handclaps — leads to a sonic journey that is as smooth as it is wholly entrancing. this fantastic coupling of tracks is being produced in very short supply, so snap them up quickly!

TUFF ENUFF
12 Inch 05.10.10
>tuff enuff?< sounds just the way an affirmative answer to the titular question should: lean and muscular, with sinewy bass flexing its way straight through. its a song full of robust underpinnings and carefully placed counterbalances: synths that lustrously shimmer and slowly dissipate, keys that sparkle faintly at the quietest moments. the first single on from the cradle to the rave, the debut album from shit robot – aka marcus lambkin, aka >the godfather of dfa< – is a perfectly executed composition in >homage to chicago house, kraftwerk and gay electronic disco.< the b-side features a wild geese remix of >i found love<, another stellar track from lambkins debut. in the capable hands of djs dan foat and frank tope, the laidback original

WHAT FOLLOWS (CD)
CD 17.05.16
two years on from his previous full-length, irishman-in-stuttgart marcus lambkin returns with what follows, his third album. recorded in his home studio, but mixed with juan maclean in new hampshire, it s a typically stylish and trippy set that methodically joins the dots between giorgio moroder, lcd soundsystem, italo-disco, german techno, balearic deep house, and intense chicagoan acid. lambkin has always been adept at making club music both left-of-centre and accessible, as if he secretly pines to make 80s synth-pop but is consistently drawn towards the dancefloor. this certainly explains the quantity and quality of the vocal numbers dotted throughout what follows.

GOODNIGHT (SHIT ROBOT REMIX)
12 Inch 05.12.17
forriner is lee forster and oli worriner.
i made music together with lee for years (alongside mick rolfe) as last waltz. he also worked as lizards with james hadfield (james released solo for me me me 02), oli worriner, is a talented young northerner who’s already making a great name for his solo output, both under his own name and his traela alias, as well his label “tunnyl recordings”.
i’m really flattered that they’ve let me release their first full solo release, and i love how they’ve brought out each others deeper and more emotive sides in these 2 tracks. shit robot is a hero of mine. i basically wore out the grooves on a bunch of his dfa stuff from just over 10 years ago, and i’ve avidly bought everything he’s released since. i met him this summer for the first time when we shared the bill at a festival, and was so happy to find that he’s also lovely guy in real life. they say you should never meet your heroes, but i don’t subscribe to that as this meeting led to not one, but two fantastic remixes for me me me 08. the originals are a bright mix of melodically analogue left leaning house, while the remixes zero-in on a punchier dancefloor vibe, with an epic version goodnight, as well a more heads down disco dub.
so yeah, links within links, and keeping it northeastern again i guess.
