at last! this one took literally years to piece together. does dennis bovell need an introduction? i think not but in case you dont know, he is a musical polymath, top flight producer, dub legend and one of the finest artists the uk has ever produced. optimo music has worked with dennis before when he went into green door studios and dubbed out golden teacher to the max. this disco plate ep was already in the works before then but various circumstances caused it to take until now to see the light of day

a collaborative effort between steve mason and dennis bovell, >ghosts outside< was recorded in early 2011 at livingston studios in north london. using the original tracks from boys outside as a basis, dennis added additional instrumentation with steve guidance, the tracks were given the classic bovell production treatment.
dennis is a renowned and much respected artist / producer, central in the development of british reggae from the 1970s onwards. he gained renown with his own group, matumbi and also worked with the likes of linton kwesi johnson, i-roy and janet kay. he also produced a wide diversity of bands including the pop group, orange juice and the slits.

the album has a very fragile, stripped down and haunting sound and is being roundly praised for it s beauty and simplicity drawing numerous comparisons to his early work with the beta band on the -3 eps- album. having previously recorded as both king biscuit time and black affair, both largely electronic based projects, steve mason enlisted the help of producer richard x and consciously made a decision to go back to basics: the album was written entirely on acoustic guitar with many of the finished tracks stripped back to reveal his undoubted songwriting talent. this special bonus edition includes a bonus disc of the album -ghosts outside- which sees the original album given a dub reworking by dennis bovell.
