im jahr 1990 fand in der ansonsten typisch provinziellen kleinstadt bracknell am rande der westlondoner vorstädte zum ersten mal die mittlerweile berüchtigte wöchentliche sonntagabendparty „shave yer tongue“ statt, auf der koryphäen der dj-szene wie alfredo und andrew weatherall auflegten. auf diesem musikalischen ausflug der beiden gründer der party, scott james und christopher hayne, die 1995 unter dem namen syt auftraten, gibt es die treffend betitelte deep drift ep: vier treibende, geschmackvolle progressive house- und trance-stücke, die ebenso geeignet sind, ein wurmloch in raum und zeit zu öffnen, wie sie einen dancefloor in interdimensionale glückseligkeit versetzen.

ein sehr begehrtes album aus der britischen underground-trance/rave-szene mitte der 90er jahre, das ursprünglich auf magick eye records (einem von swordfish von astralasia mitgegründeten label) erschien. „cubic space“ ist das einzige album, das von syt (shave yer tongue) veröffentlicht wurde, und es kam im doppel-lp-format, mit 8 tracks in einer breiten palette von tempi, mit ausgedehnten exkursionen, die von atmosphärischem downtempo-dub bis hin zu schnellerer elektronischer trance-psychedelia reichen.

rough and ready machine tracks from brazilian producer/december collaborator innsyter (la club resource). cyn002 picks up where coletivo vandalismo left off, channeling that same wild, diy bedroom studio spirit across nine individual recordings. opening with sprawling synth motifs fighting against a steady rhythm track, desintegrado sounds like an industrial dub punk trying to channel early cluster or moebius and strangely succeeding. the rest of the lp treats us to vaguely drexciyan, subaquatic electro (bries) and twisted lo-fi minimalism with bonus eerie monologue samples (superficial love). the one recurring theme on magnetic healing is innsyter s clear love for mournful, post-punk inspired melodies. it comes across loud and clear on almost every track yet never sounds tired. things eventually draw to a close with the hopelessly romantic new wave instrumental forest shaman - a short ballad for all those weary-eyed party-goers who stuck around til the sun came up!

musar is honoured to revive the electronic-synth legend, manasyt, with a new five-track ep as part of a three-ep series. including a pair of remixes by brooklyns wonder girl via app and wax stag, an occasional collaborator with bibio and clark.

the sixth compilation of mutated machine music from contort yourself centres around british industrial pioneers nocturnal emissions. the group hack out two thick cuts of oil soaked savagery. gears crunch and chains clatter as drum machines are minced and mangled for demon circuits bloodbath before the reduced and removed bitterness of even the good times are bad. l.i.e.s. main man ron morelli under the guise of u-202 takes on the static of the 83 original, lonesome rhythms fired into a gaping hollow of echo and decay. there is brief respite, very brief, coming in the haunted strings of penelope s fiance. torrent grinds this short break into dust with exe 2 blueprint, a sludge stomper drowned in distortion and dripping with distress. innsyter (l.a. club resource), aka seixlack, calls time with the hazy house bottle smasher, think fog machines and bodies in the dark and youre getting close. off-kilter madness all-round!
