2016 fand in santiago de cuba das manana festival statt. es führte zu einem intensiven dialog zwischen vertretern regional-karibischer musiktraditionen und internationalen independent-künstlern aus dem spannungsfeld von dance, avantgarde und jazz. mit der gründung des labels manana wurden vor ort geknüpfte fäden aufgenommen und weitergesponnen. daraus resultierten bereits zwei außergewöhnliche tonträger. -soundspecies & ache meyi- ist der dritte dieser reihe, er fusioniert auf aufsehenerregende weise folk aus kuba mit britischer elektronik. hinter soundspecies verbergen sich zwei als djs und produzenten aktive brüder aus dem englischen dorset. in ihrer musik loten sie die verbindungen zwischen den klängen und formen elektronischer tanzmusik einerseits und den repetitiven mustern von traditionellem folk andererseits aus. die formation ache meyi hat sich hingegen afro-haitianischen rhythmen und stilen wie bembe, vodu, gaga und merengue verschrieben. und das auf eine ziemlich dynamische weise, was angesichts des bandnamens wenig überrascht. die yoruba-begriffe -ache- und -meyi- bedeuten so viel doppelte power.

a new collaboration project on crowdspacer. bryce hackford, part of one of the most daring dj crew in nyc (deep trouble), true purveyor of a certain new york club culture legacy (think arthur russell) and author of 2 acclaimed albums, came to joakims studio and after a few hours of live synth and drum machine jamming, jhack was born. i would describe this as psychedelic voodoo house music. but its up to you really.

on the a-side, this is what we would call a banger here at crowdspacer. simple, stupid, raw, funky. is it a tribute to new york? not sure but the b side certainly is. to be more precise it’s a tribute to merce cunningham, the legendary choreographer, close collaborator of john cage and genius thinker who inspired the name of the label. based on a recorded lecture by merce, the eponymous track is a slow, hypnotic and organic house groove, an ode to movement and ny avant garde, because “...dancing is a visible action of life.”

frank kvitta doesn t stop, that s for sure, and this fourth release on his label is kick-ass! patrick dsp (fine audio, hydraulix, hardsignal) and misstress are responsible for the first track >fucked<. frank kvitta himself remixes >fucked< for the second track on the a-side and both patrick dsp and misstress dropped a track on the b-side. hardtechno lovers, this is a must have!

patrick dsp & dj pauze have set up hardsignal for producing quality, pumping dance music. to celebrate their 10th release on the label these men spent the last few months in their toronto based studio. their hard labor results in a full blown album featuring their highly acclaimed sound. here we have 8 seriously pumping tracks of crystal clear techno

once you submit yourself to this, there will be no turning back. submissions originated as an offshoot of planet rhythm and takes things to a slightly deeper level. the label has produced a large number of talented producers and has stayed true to its original sound ever since. dj ogi (beast music, planet rhythm, patterns, compressed) takes on patrick dsp from iran. this promising techno head now resides in toronto and is building his career as a jock / producer with steady pass! his last outing on fine audio expanded his ever growing fan base and the submissions will make some more heads turn for sure!

concrete dj s are a new force that we have added to the hardsignal imprint. there are team of 4 people who are making some of the most incredible hard techno. their track tengu that we have here has a nice firm kick with a great sub bass. we welcome patrick dsp and dj pauze back to hardsignal. coming back from great repercussions from their huge release on fine audio 45, patrick and pauze have created a nice techno stomper for us with a little bit of a different twist. great kick and bassline with a sample that is super catchy. we are proud to announce the return of primal to our label. he has taken a bit of a break off while in the studio recording some of his newest material

skeleton recordings are proud to announce the release of the skeleton xxv project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the label which originally launched in 1992. this is a five part collectors edition to celebrate 25 years of skeleton recordings. volumes 01 to 04 sleeve artwork when put together will form a big piece of artwork of the revamped original skeleton recordings logo that will look good on any wall. volume 05 will be a picture disc. the full digital album will only become available once all five volumes have been released. the project has taken just over 12 months to put together and is definitely something for the collectors. it has been generating quite a buzz within the underground circuit the closer it gets to release date and has been getting some really good support from the likes of bailey, storm and ray keith to name a few.

when it’s time... it’s 11h11, 07h07 or 23h23. this concept is the concept of the 23h23 series... mental tribe sound and hardtek dancefloor.

78crew repress... one of the most wanted record from dsp. with also on b side a superb tune from jesse and rodolphe from the insomniak crew. 78 is a french department (mantes la jolie power!), and thatr ecord was made by 32 artoists from this department. that was the main subject. nice souvenirs with this one.
