placed under the media spotlights in 2011 thanks to their joyful and loony indie pop, concrete knives went on to sign with the legendary uk imprint bella union (beach house, fleet foxes, lift to experience, etc.). their first album be your own king was successfully released the following year, selling more than 7000 copies in france alone and sending the group of friends on the road to play more than 150 live dates all over europe. quiet for the past six years and after recording with danish producer andreas pallisgaard (trentemøller, goat, pinkunoizu), the band is set to return with a much awaited second effort on the french label vietnam (h-burns, chevalrex pharaon de winter).

for ws021 we head to italy where we find a duo by the name of concret aka italo-mexican musician diego angelico escobar and producer q-pha. together, they submit a couple of ethereal, stripped-back and driving techno tracks that compliment each other so well they appear to be brother and sister from the same session. on remix duty we ve got another italian, rodion, who ads his signature sound to ritorno and flips it into a laid-back dark groover. last but not least is uk s heretic, aka timothy clerkin, who remixes andata into a classy acid burner fit for a massive warehouse party or dark, sweaty basement.

the pedigree of this collaboration should need little explanation. luminaries of british electronic music spanning over two decades, russell haswell (gescom, haswell & hecker) and downwards label founder karl o connor (regis, sandwell district, british murder boys) have come together to produce three tracks of inimitable experimental techno in their debut collaborative release. with each track built upon a permutating sonic foundation, these are muscular and expertly paced compositions that effortlessly transition between hypnotic rhythms and textural and timbral experimentation.

concrete dj s are a new force that we have added to the hardsignal imprint. there are team of 4 people who are making some of the most incredible hard techno. their track tengu that we have here has a nice firm kick with a great sub bass. we welcome patrick dsp and dj pauze back to hardsignal. coming back from great repercussions from their huge release on fine audio 45, patrick and pauze have created a nice techno stomper for us with a little bit of a different twist. great kick and bassline with a sample that is super catchy. we are proud to announce the return of primal to our label. he has taken a bit of a break off while in the studio recording some of his newest material

concrete noir ist das neueste projekt des multimedia-künstlers und sounddesigners piero fragola, bekannt für genreübergreifende unternehmungen wie we love (bpitch control) und angle (tiptop audio records). mit diesem projekt erkundet er einen hybriden raum, in dem elektronik, stimme und bild zu einer introspektiven und schattenhaften form verschmelzen. das debütalbum romance ruins ist die erste veröffentlichung des neu gegründeten labels frequens records.

es wurde vollständig mit dem modularen system art von tiptop audio komponiert und entfaltet sich als eine reihe von vielschichtigen, emotionsgeladenen kompositionen. es handelt sich um strukturierte songs mit einer physischen wirkung im unteren frequenzbereich.
