catz n dogz continue to roll out their pets sub label step recordings and follow up a slew of soulheavy dance records from baltra, reno wurzbacher and the analog roland orchestra with a solo ep from fellow polish producer universo. with previous appearances on transatlantyk, the auspicious newcomer slots neatly into the step catalogue in presenting his ‘underworld’ ep: a package of softly glowing lo-fi that fans of baltras recent sophia ep on step will relish. underworld then unfolds at a steady, hypnotic pace as moody, interlocking chords and paired up with a gentle spoken vocal that work together to create a poignant, eyes-down mood. icy strings and a trippy spoken are introduced before kora buta follows up with some warm, swooning sample work. sleeper is next up as distant, meandering thumb pianos and rainy textures colour the tracks fuzzy drums while a glassy, legowelt-esque pad glides overhead.frequenza kicks things off a soft, sizzling pad sent ducking under a rock-hard kick drum.

transatlantyk return with a double header informed by the dark continent label regular universo (architect of their best ep no less) cooks up a splendid slice of culturally appropriated, campfire heat. its graceland era paul simon fed through some expertly assembled 21st century software. on the flip ryan r (reynolds maybe?) offers up umqondo. as western polands answer to awesome tapes from africa, we d say he knows from whence he takes. its a groove so thick even dr livingstone would have trouble hacking through it, an immersive ride though to be sure, and one which will make infinitely more sense at 4am sunday morning than it does at midday on a tuesday.

following the success of the first three releases, polish imprint transatlantyk is back with more playful dance floor jams. this brand new offering showcases the unusual production talent of a well known polish hip-hop beatmaker lukasz maszczynski who until now was best known for serving fat beats for best underground rappers under his kixnare alias, under which he also released 3 solo albums on the polish u know me imprint. his new alter ego - universo - is dedicated to deep and raw house-oriented music, leaving soft, r&b infused electronic jams and raw sample-heavy beats behind. the ep opener amazones fuses rolling bass and synths with heavy drums and mind enhancing soundscapes, creating beautiful late night jam. chrome takes its sounds and inspirations out of chicago house playbook and works them to great effect. yebo is the perfect peak-time banger. its rolling, irresistible groove and chords are reminiscent of motor city drum ensemble s finest moments. fat, fresh and funky! closing the ep is sus , a deep ambient track with liquid-like synths pouring bits of melancholy on top of delicate drums. all four tracks have been road-tested by the transatantyk family and will be the source of endless fun for you and the dancers on the floor. ahoj!

a brand new instalment in the trans afryka series, that is loosely inspired by the sounds of the black continent and devoted to club-oriented afro-house. riding the waves of success with sold out volume 1, zambon employed three talented producers to bring more goods to the table. transatlantyk regulars like dj dook and universo are joined by a newcomer tamten and together deliver a bomb of an ep! aptly titled afro acid by dj dook is exactly what it says on the sleeve - raw dj tool with squelchy samples, mantra-like vocal loop and focused vibe. think of an soundtrack to a futuristic version of apocalypse now. just the perfect peaktime beats to heat the party a little bit more. praise song by universo is built on a wandering bassline reminiscent of malian blues with tribal chants, penny whistles and various sorts of percussions on top. this beautiful groove rolls and rolls without end, like an endless summer. ukukhnaya by tamten is the most atmospheric out of the three, fusing new age midi sounds with the vibes of south african deep house.
