the tireless and titanic dance figure that is dj t. is next up on seth troxler’s essential play it say it label. dj t. has done it all in his long and storied career, from setting up one of the most influential labels in get physical to founding groove magazine via opening the monza club and, of course, serving up always inventive eps and lps on the best labels of the day. his sound has evolved through many house, disco and tech styles and has kept him an in-demand dj for more than 25 years. these new missives are yet more proof that few know how to work the floor as well as dj t. the perfectly menacing keep it close kicks things off with a dark, snaking bassline underpinning freaky synth stabs. the pressure builds throughout and will have the crowd locked in before it pulls back and builds again with a masterful grasp of mood. hitting much harder is the excellent the day it all started, a more physical house track with solid kicks is designed for maximum impact in the club. tumbling bass and gurgling synth riffs flesh this one out and ensure it is a real piece of dynamite. last of all is the retro-tinged 1988, with its tightly programmed drums, slick claps and spraying acid line. its a wild track to get the freaks out of the shadows and on to the ‘floor. this is a fresh ep that offers three very different but equally effective club tracks that are sure to blow up in the coming months

dj t. gave us his fine album, the pleasure principle last winter. since then ts given controls to top producers for high grade remixes. this time daniel bortz, clockwork and dj t. himself take on >leavin me feat. khan<. jump right into things with the clockwork remix, a sweet blend of house-party amience and maintime club sensation. the rhythm alone could keep us dancing for hours, that mixed with the itchy bassline and arousing vocals, ensure that no one is feeling anything else. clockwork delivers a solid remix, more than worthy of >leavin me<. the b side shows daniel bortzs remix in full view. right away, a full beat pulling you into the rhythm, building to the entrancing chord play. the vocal lines give a sensual tone to the mix,. right at home in berlins watergate or a closing party on ibiza, this track carries us on, while the night hours fade to early morning. t.s > left with attitude mix< finds us in the deepest of nights, where flashing lights illuminate our ecstatic faces. heavy piano chords roll and the beat fades, pure sound. the kick brings us back to earth. t. meets us at the part when you realize you have found what you are looking for and all is right in the world

dj t.s pleasure principle immersed itself, wholly and rapturously, into electronic musics legacy of soul, and helped to usher in a new period of groove-heavy deepness. like an antidote to clinical club sounds, album standout tracks like sense inject some well needed groove into the dancefloor. the maxi version of sense partners faraway melodies with james teejs breathy vocals that get up close and personal. a deep electro funk bass riff establishes its intent, and snaky percussion leads to a more structured house beat. piping flute sounds and drum echoes add an element of swing, while analogue handclaps and the tracks distinctive bass line recall its retro pedigree. newcomers tale of us continue their journey into dark minimalism, with a remix that isolates the percussion and vocals, shrouding both in reverb for maximum atmospheric effect. a sense of unease pervades through the saturated bassline and slow delayed handclaps, creating frosty mists and dark corners within the synth-tech house arrangement. hot natured duo lee foss and jamie jones next bring their sunny midas touch to the proceedings. teasing out the intro with high hats and layered vocals, a sense of anticipation is high. it blooms into sleek, skittering beats and otherworldly sounds, with a bass line thats been cut & paste back into place, before it delves deeper into a menacing deep bass synth rumble. the club version begins with a kick, deep echoes and meek percussive sounds that loop upwards through the scale. the distinctive bass line and handclaps begin, then teejs unadulterated vocals are pushed to the fore. brittle metallic synth flares appear from below the bass-heavy beat and recede again, ending in an electro-disco retro groove

>the dawn< is a moody, undulating cruiser of a track, which will subtly but surely make a dancefloor feel a sense of sunrise, whatever time of day or night. busy, clicky percussion sets the scene for a full-bodied, rising, almost trancey bassline to take control. t ups the intensity with real dancefloor nous and precision programming, layering distressed synth sounds and heavily treated keys atop each other while never losing sight of the tracks fierce ,fundamental groove. ‘the dawn’ builds and builds, by turns dropping out the percussion and the bassline, every departure and return a heads-down, hands-aloft dancefloor moment. the crisp snares and rich, melodic notes of delay add even more depth to what is already an essential tune. b-side >jam pot< is more playful, and driven by a classic physical bass melody - at once intimate and techy, dubby and dancefloor-urgent, gritty but optimistic. again, the attention to detail on the percussion takes this track to the next level, and jazzy keys provide an organic ontrast to the robotic blips and bleeps.
