german producer christian burkhardt teams up with fellow countrymen chris wood & meat for a three-track release on jamie jones hottrax this may. burkhardt has been flying the flag for minimalist electronic music for a decade now, releasing on labels such as cocoon, oslo and pressure traxx. likewise, freebase records founders meat + chris wood have been purveying deep and minimal cuts individually since the ‘00s, joining forces in 2009 before releasing on labels like desolat, housewax and tiefschwarz souvenir. between the three of them theyve continually garnered support from the upper echelons of house and techno, making regular appearances in the sets of names like ricardo villalobos, sven väth, seth troxler and jamie jones. intricate percussion and a compelling bassline make up the foundation of closer 2 u as an echoing vocal and tense strings operate throughout. meanwhile, plain is a more downtempo cut in comparison with its dusky atmospherics and distorted spoken word samples that subtly permeate throughout the mix. on the flip, trumpad is deep and dubby whilst integrating trippy synths and mesmerizing effects for a rhythmic conclusion.

since 2004 chris wood has been working as a successful producer and remixer for labels including souvenir, below, kindisch, murmur, bechosen or levelnonzero and in 2009 he started working with his long-time friend, fellow producer and co-owner of freebase records in frankfurt, meat (carsten schuchmann).

souvenir is proud to present its 44th ep from a duo of frankfurts favourite sons, chris wood and carsten meat schuchmann. both chris and carsten have come up through frankfurts music scene, chris with his long time residency at the infamous monza club and carsten having started the citys premier record shop freebase, still going strong 18years later. trained as a studio engineer, chris cut his chops under the wise wings of pascal feos and joinedforces with meat, who held residencies at cocoon and robert johnson. last year they dropped the mighty triple s on souvenir, which destroyed dance floors as far afield as sao paolo to ibiza.

zeitlos, a german word meaning timeless is one way to describe chris wood & meats new ep, triple s. this is house of a different flavor, pulling influences from freestyle jazz and funk. we find ourselves late in the night. we enter triple s, a smoky cool atmosphere, relaxed and ready. light percussion leads us into the back, where a lone wandering bass line takes the stage. the simmer of hi hats and trample of toms usher in the kicks. chugging along, a single jazz flute, and sassy women punch through the fog. the strings rise and the bass sinks into the cellar. downplayed with style and elegance, triple s is the perfect track for half past midnight, opening the gates and pouring your body on to the dancefloor.

played by karotte & sven vÄth at timewarp 2010!!! chris wood & meat return from their splash on kindische for another electric package, this time on murmur with backdown ep complete with sascha dive remix. backdown is a truly head-turning release – setting up three takes on one track touching on high-end percussion, brass instrument led melodies and the voiced enquiry – do you want it? this package comes with a dub version and sascha dive remix, each accentuating their own unique take on the original. the original melts with a sumptuous hook within a low end bassline before dropping into a restless trumpet fanfare. sascha dive puts a warm and driving house spin on the track, preparing it for those early moments on the dancefloor whilst the dub is the quirky and more looming take on the original one to keep the bodies moving.

are you triskaidekaphobic? then we have an audio drug to heal your fear disorder. its called >details<. and consists of 13 in the mix tracks, released by a frankfurt label established three years ago to leave a very own mark on the deep & minimal house genre. with a bow before the historical achievements of the golden chicago jack and detroit tech innovators, but not that low that it could limit the own mobility. and a far cry from common ice cold, free of emotion minimal click sound dictates. to create warm, atmospheric but also bass driven energetic structures was main target right from the beginning instead. something that really deserves the title level non zero with non gravity music high above average tracks and average record labels. music that cant reveal the full impact when dropping the needle on it just for a second or pre-listened as low resolution online-file
