new york collective sheik ‘n’ beik continue to expand an impressively developing catalogue adding to releases from xamiga, keita saino and jeffrey scott with a fresh 12” from voodoo down records owner and fellow brooklynite n conduit. having utilised voodoo down as a platform for his own brand of rich, emotive house music n conduit now dims the lights a tad in offering up 3 neatly reduced techno tracks that meld dystopian drones with disquieting melodies and tough, swung drums. ‘echo must die’ kicks things off with looming pads and glistening synth tones. a bold, punchy kick drives a purposeful march forwards whilst mangled computer fx pepper the high-end.

voodoo down returns to the compilation series that started it all: possible side effects vol.1, released in late 2012, was the first release on the brooklyn-based label and marked the inception of a concept ep series that would come to define the labels sound. featuring an a1 cut by german journeyman producer stl and rounded out by the label founders’ eclectic techno styles, pse vol. i was the perfect vehicle for the producers still working to carve out their own individual aesthetic. now with a dozen releases under their belt, the founders l estasi dell oro, nconduit and 12 x 12 have returned to their roots and this time recruited the prolific berlin-based producer deadbeat for volume three of the series. like the first two volumes, its a slightly chaotic mix of beefy dance floor tools and heady experimentation. the separate personalities shine through more than ever on this release. vdr always striving to keep things interesting.

jack fuller is a harlem based singer, songwriter and dancer who works closely with many pop and hip-hop acts, including azealia banks. he is also in the vogue trap project, anvkai. n’conduit is brooklyn based producer & engineer alex hamadey. he produces ambient music under smallbroadcasts on something records and is in several collaborations including lindbergh palace, mc&hammer and shadow lanes. alex also co-runs two vinyl labels: voodoo down records and rock and roll records. by day he composes for film and commercial with hyberballad music. this is his fourth vinyl release. available on full color jacket lp by brooklyn, ny based artist juan betancurth.
