after one year of high energy industrial and punk-leaning music, kess kill presents something slightly more contemplative: the vinyl debut of the swedish act grand mal x. the solna based duo started in 2010 and was first known from the cassette scene, which was also where we stumbled across their work. drawing from a long and wide palette of influences — from osho dynamic meditation and eu highways, to artists like suicide, coil and rune lindblad — their music breathes an ethereal yet catchy air, a difficult line to tread. the fact that one of the members is active at the legendary experimental ems studios in stockholm might be the reason for the unusual amount of depth and maturity, steering the music sternly away from the plainly accessible. opener ‘late night call’ is a brooding and growling number perfect for setting the mood in any room or occasion needing an infusion of sweaty sexual energy. ‘speed of light’, the record’s most up-tempo song, leans towards both synth pop and electro-punk. on the flip ‘the trip’ does the exact opposite of the opener, winding things down both emotionally and energy wise, replacing sex appeal with lithium-lined angst, not unlike alan wilder at his deepest. ending the ep is ‘rabbit’, an unadulterated trip down a similarly named hole for those who feel like falling. summed up it’s the most abstract but surprisingly catchy kess kill release to date, an essential beacon in grasping the label’s concept.

celldöd, aka anders karlsson, has been releasing dirty electronic music since the late 80s, both small-run cassette tapes inspired by the diy ethos of his post-punk background, and pristine vinyl editions. karlsson s music is uncompromising and edgy, with roots in both early electronic and 70s industrial music from britain, as well as us techno and kraut-inspired german electronics. prior to releasing records under the name celldöd, he released music as the pain machinery (ebm), human experiment (industrial), preset (industrial/breakcore), and hbt (proto-techno/industrial) among others — all unified by an omnipresent diy-punk attitude.

hot on the heels of kess kill s launch featuring cute heels, rivet proudly presents kess02 by xaõ seffcheque. while kess01 was in no way a compromise, it was still a very intentional symbiosis between the distilled essence of kess kill and contemporary electronic music. on kess02 we go straight to the core of the kess kill sound and aesthetic with three breathtaking songs by xaõ seffcheque. a contemporary of liaisons dangereuses and d.a.f., düsseldorf based artist xaõ produced some extremely singular music in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which makes for a very proud first reissue for kess kill. this is music so unparalleled that making comparisons is completely redundant. think jacked up post-punk with manic rhythmic tendencies and you’re halfway there. qu est-ce qu il fait chaud!

first release on new malmö based vinyl label kess kill, run by rivet. kess kill was started with the will to continue the legacy 1979-1983by bands like liasons dangereuses, tommi stumpff, xao seffcheque, geile tiere and others, music that oozed techno, long before techno was a concept. some of the music on kess kill will be brand new, some will be 30 years old, but it will all be unified by the naive frustration and punky rawness that has long been absent

2022 reissue of the self-titled 1981 classic from liaisons dangereuses.

this album is a collaboration between labels kontra-musik and kess kill. what would have become of d.a.f. if they had been signed to trojan instead of mute back in the day add a good pinch of absurdism and social realism in the vein of prized film director roy andersson and vanligt folk might just be the answer. the gothenburg groups name can be translated to common people and they make use of primitive electronics, drums and skewed vocals - ranging from harsh social commentary to the purely nonsensical - to create their own take on body music. hambo is the name of a traditional swedish folk dance that was highly popular among the common people at the turn of the last century. with this album, vanligt folk juxtaposes the working class dance phenomena of hambo with modern day rave culture. this is done in the most blasphemous manner thinkable, as is the way of vanligt folk. concepts like nationalism, race and tradition are all treated with the same merry lack of reverence. the only thing that needs to be respected is the dance and those who take part in it, whether accompanied by accordions or drum machines. or both.

celldod is swedish producer anders karlsson. anders has been active in the music scene for some time working on different musical projects, always with a strong diy ethic his celldod project has released several cassettes under his own label brutal disciplin and has also released records on suction records, kess kill and femur records. in 2017 anders released an album under the name vargd?d on opal tapes together with swedish techno artist varg. anders hardware driven sound has evolved over time now personifying finely sharpened ebm and techno crossover of the highest calibre. with a nod to the greats but with a forward thinking direction, we have four new cuts to destroy the darkest dance floors. relentless, bass-heavy and blown-out bangers. fans of daf and maybe 242 meets silent servant will be blown away. mastered by martin bowes at the cage, uk.

following the hugely appreciated reissue of stanislav tolkachev “why are you so frightened” we proudly present “catacomb saints”. two songs written during the same period as “yes, today” and “imago”, originally planned to come out in 2011 but halted due to a severe traffic accident in label manager rivet’s life followed by years of hospitalization. but times are brighter now! we hope you enjoy this quite weird and simply singular 10” by the eastern genius that is tolkachev
