The 12 track album was written and produced since the turn of 2013 and mixed with Erol Alkan at ‘The Phantasy Sound’, the label’s own studio in London. A difficult trick to master but like Carl Craig’s ‘More Songs About Food And Revolutionary Art’, Plastikman’s ‘Consumed’ or more recently the work of Four Tet, the album works as a cohesive whole rather than a disparate collection of tracks. Innovative and forward thinking, Drone Logic manages to draw influences from beyond the dancefloor via My Bloody Valentine, NEU! and Chris Carter while still having the techno pulse to scale the walls of any club. The wide array of plaudits and early adopters of Avery’s music is proof of this, ranging from acid house legends like The Chemical Brothers, Andrew Weatherall and Richie Hawtin to the best of the new breed in Maya Jane Coles, James Holden and Factory Floor. Firmly established as one of the UK’s most exciting new DJ / producers having cut his teeth in Weatherall’s Shoreditch studio bunker, Drone Logic follows up Avery’s universally acclaimed mix CD for London clubbing institution Fabric where he remains a resident, recent remixes for Primal Scream, The Horrors & Django Django and last year’s Need Electric and Water Jump EPs on Alkan’s Phantasy label. This summer sees him play at Bestival, Festival No.6 and the Green Man festival.

Holger Klein Groove Magazin: “Daniel Avery D r o n e L o g i c (Phantasy Sound/Word And Sound) Der aus dem südenglischen Bournemouth stammende Produzent und DJ Daniel Avery ist zweifellos ein Senkrechtstarter. Manche würden ihn vielleicht auch als Streber bezeichnen. Was der 28-Jährige bisher angepackt hat, ist ihm mit Bravour gelungen. Zur elektronischen Musik hat Avery eher spät gefunden, sieht man einmal davon ab, dass er in jungen Jahren Fan von Underworld und den Chemical Brothers war. Doch dann waren erst einmal Iggy und die Stooges interessanter, bis er später über das Radio die abseitigeren Gefilde elektronischer Musik entdeckte. LFO und Aphex Twin standen für ihn damals direkt neben Bands wie Spacemen 3 oder My Bloody Valentine. Heute ist Daniel Avery längst fest gesetzt als Resident auf dem großen Floor des Londoner Clubs Fabric. Obendrein hat er seine eigene Radiosendung auf Rinse FM. Und seitdem er im vergangenen Jahr seine erste Platte auf dem Schweizer Label Relish veröffentlicht hat, kennt Avery auch als Produzent nur einen Weg: den, der steil nach oben führt. Andrew Weatherall, den der Engländer seit Jahren verehrte, ist heute ganz offiziell ein Fan und Förderer von ihm, ebenso wie Erol Alkan, auf dessen Label Phantasy Sound nun Averys aufsehenerregendes Debütalbum D r o n e L o g i c erscheint. Der Titel D r o n e L o g i c gibt die Richtung vor. Drone-Sounds bestimmen über weite Strecken das Bild eines Albums, das sich gleichermaßen Rock wie Techno und Electro zugehörig fühlt. Dass Daniel Avery ein Faible für Gitarreneffektgeräte und Feedback- Orgien im Sinne von My Bloody Valentine hat, spielt dabei eine eher untergeordnete Rolle. Es sind auch die Beats, die in jedem Sinne des Wortes rocken. Schon der Auftakt des Albums, „Water Jump“, lässt keinen Zweifel daran, dass der Engländer bei der Produktion des Albums auch den großen Floor im Fabric vor Augen hatte. Und das ist das eigentlich erstaunliche an D r o n e L o g i c : Die Platte funktioniert im Club wie auch zu Hause oder unterwegs, und das obwohl Avery sich zumeist eben nicht für geradeaus marschierende Beats entscheidet. Hört man seine Beats und Basslines, ist da auch viel Dub im Spiel. Und sehr viel Andrew Weatherall. In manchem Moment mag man denken, dass dieses Album die Verwirklichung dessen ist, was Weatherall einst mit seinen Sabres Of Paradise im Sinn hatte. Über beinahe die gesamte Spieldauer weiß Daniel Avery die Spannung zu halten, einzig die deeperen, konventionell-housigeren Stücke fallen auf diesem beeindruckend guten Album etwas ab. ”
