SOCKS & SCANDALS EP
12 Inch
30.04.14
with credits between them ranging from hypercolour, future boogie, fear of flying, southern fried, save you and wolf, dj/producers james welsh and ste roberts team up under their r&w pseudonym for this, the 7th release on initials with its clear mandate from the word go back in 2012 to release only the most underground house and techno, initials (helmed by ste himself, hypercolours alex jones and 1trax label boss dave elkabas) delivers the goods yet again with the socks & scandals ep. at just 2 tracks, there is no need to say more, with opener meat an understated mechanical exploration into the art of evolving and hypnotic beat-crafting, while bucket sheep employs rhythmic detail in a broader soundscape to great effect, offsetting the incessant marching bass expertly.

DICK & US EP (GREY VINYL)
Coloured 12 Inch
15.05.13
run by two thirds of the team behind hypercolour - ste roberts and alex jones, alongside dave elkabas - the initials imprint has made an auspicious foray into the world of electronic music, with releases and remixes from the likes of the analogue cops, kris wadsworth, boola, jay bliss and the greenville massive. for the sixth ep, roberts himself appears with a solo track, as does finale sessions producer will azada, and the pair also contribute a collaborative effort featuring dick darling.
SHARD IN THE HOLE EP
12 Inch
12.04.13
two thirds of the hypercolour label team, alex jones and ste roberts, present the first initials 12 inch of 2013 in the form of shard in the hole by blue & green. otherwise known as bareskin & j.wiltshire, blue & green have already developed respectable reputation for themselves. bareskin, aka 19 year old josh thompson from winchester, has set his stall out with non-standard house workouts for losing suki and hypercolour while j.wiltshire has an imminent ep for the prolific imprint.as with previous initials releases, shard in the hole has a techno leaning stance, albeit one with a far from purist outlook. the title track is a broken 4:4 track that builds towards a solitary pulsing bass note and skittering high end percussion and arpeggios. bring me down on the flip is a housier groove complete with an unnerving bassline and clipped vocal samples complimented with distorted washes and theremin-esque tones.
