it is 2013 and in this release we hear a totally new approach to sampling. a vinyl release of two artists. fitz ambro$e (cape breton island) residing intokyo, & ohbliv of richmond, virginia(usa). fitz ambro$e sound has unique influence from 90s hip hop and 80s soul, he is also affiliated with cosmopolyphonic collective in tokyo. from the record archives of his father, ohbliv developed the charm of sampling. the record is a 14 track collage of beats from two uniquely talented artists who transcend their individual musical roots. as if competeing with each other both leave the remnants of sampling material, and the method in which they cut and chop is truely an interesting work.
-djm trio is led by dominic j. marshall, an amsterdam native who is a current member of renowned british nu-jazz and electronic outfit the cinematic orchestra. -a rising jazz star, marshall was nominated for the edison international jazz award, & the trio earned a coveted set at bbc’s manchester jazz festival, as unanimously selected by a jury including gilles peterson, jamie cullum & jez nelson.
dil withers has been making noise ever since his emergence in 2013 on a split tape with ohbliv (dil blivers). residing in seattle, wa, dil has been thriving in the towns rich vinyl scene, soaking up all that he can. jazz heavy loops with dusty drums is dils calling card. studies is an audio collage of samples, drums, vocals, thoughts and feelings. as dil studies the game, he takes notes, waiting for his time to shine. his time has come.
f.i.c is an initiative by darker than wax (singapore) and cascade records (france), independent labels from different continents have come together to present a very special and heartfelt project. this lp marks a milestone, besides being an exclusive collaboration between the labels, it also features a conglomerate of many different artistes from all over the world.
