the new ep ‘breakers yard’ from british producer and seagrave label boss blood room, vaporizes some classic flavours on glowing hot charcoals. orchestra hits, wobbly synth stabs, mechanically cranking up and springing out. sparse snappy percussion, populates space with all the groove where it needs to be.

taking proto sites back to the hypnotic hardware methods of earlier releases like lutto lento, s olbricht and sentry, suspension ep makes things kaleidoscopic, raw, repetitive and asynchronous. high gain perishing delays gradually cook your brain while flerbing sci-fi reverberations crawl across the atmosphere. this five-track cassette mantra has a furry analogue outer crust barely containing its computer controlled acid consciousness. each tune has its own density and unique stripped back bass structure which carries the whole thing along, absorbing strange hissy elements as it rocks downstream. breaking through the mantle, sawtooth voices murmur foreign incantations, swinging loopy phrases come and go jamming their way into repetitive bass squelches all pressure cooked to the extreme.

this is a vinyl reissue of the first release of stephen bishop’s basic house moniker, originally release as a tape in 2012. through his music, and his label opal tapes, bishop has been one of the most significant definers of leftfield dance music over the past years. his background in diy punk and noise is easily identified in his approach to both sound production, general aesthetics, and overall attitude.
“i’m not a heaven man” is characterized by a poetic and tape hissed melancholy, sensibly combined with a lo-fi experimental character rendering it a deeply personal take on contemporary electronic music. slow pulsations of sequenced drones combined with noise with strong emphasis on atmosphere make “i’m not a heaven man” an exquisitve piece of ambient sound design.
