charlotte de witte continues to establish herself as a driving force on the contemporary techno scene with the healer, her second ep on seminal british imprint novamute. the four-tracker comes after the belgian has fully broken through with a dark, dense and driving sound that is proudly unrelenting. her meteoric rise has come off the back of a series of huge productions, plus standout sets at key festivals and clubs all around the world. charlottes fresh and innovative sound is immediately laid bare on opener the healer, with eight minutes of spine-tingling, hypnotic techno. the sleek drums and icy hi-hats soon cast their spell, as well-crafted synths unfold up top to bring real emotion. silence is another slice of tunnel vision techno with perfectly designed drums rolling on and synths peeling off the groove. it is trance inducing and otherworldly, with eerie voices adding to the all-consuming atmosphere. then comes‘kuda, a track built on monstrous kicks that hit hard and drive forward with real force. filtered vocals bring character, and sharp edged percussion grows ever louder to take the track, and the club, to the next level. last of all, song of the wood nymphs shows another side to the producer with three minutes of suspensory synths and expansive ambient sounds that are filled with drama and tension.

katharsis was originally a regular party organized at the infamous contact, tokyo, the home of the electronic music scene in japan. in 2017 katharsis recordings was launched, with the first release being touted by many in the japanese techno scene and played by the likes of dj nobu at dekmantel.the second release will be scripted with another compilation of 4 japanese artists. the first on the a side, mikuni kaido by head honcho masafumi take, is a fresh track that combines nostalgic arps and analogue bass. the other main member kannabi s track -shoka- on the b side is an abstract rhythmical piece that evolves slowly. the second track on the a side -kirisame- is by a new member o-ma. a modular synth enthusiast, his unique analogue sounds are a trademark of his tracks. the last track on the ep is -yoake- by veteran ryogo yamamori. the rolling beat and spacey synth sound gradually build up to a climax and makes this track perfect for the dance floor. all 4 tracks are distinctly different showcasing the identity of each artist. this new movement represents a fresh approach to the japanese
efficient space is honoured to share the little-heard recordings of three yolngu songmen from northeast arnhem land - bobby bunnungurr, jimmy djamunba and peter milaynga (d. 2007) - working in collaboration with victorian musician peter mumme. yolngu are the indigenous peoples of arnhem land in northern territory, australia, their clans are the marangu and malabirr, the languages djinang and gannalbingu. their songs are of instruction, story and ceremony.
fresh on francis harris kingdoms imprint comes rasmus junckers ‘ophold - six tracks of sublime atmospheres and textures. the danish musician, sound composer and dj fits perfectly with the labels aesthetic, joining the dots between ambient, leftfield electronica and modern classical. juncker has a background in studying jazz drumming and has been playing improvised music within the jazz domain for many years. he also started to dj at the age of 14 and was introduced to the world of electronic music production at the same time. when rasmus started to think about his debut album he spent several months trying to find his own way to combine his favourite musical influences, improvisation, electronics and classical music. almost a year later, juncker says, i went to a sensory deprivation floating tank in copenhagen while researching for another performance and while i was lying there, floating in the water, deprived from most of my senses, i got the idea to do something drastic in my musical process. philosophers like immanuel kant describe this deprived state as a mental cesura, which became some sort of guideline for the album.
the third release on the sister label, new york trax imports, comes from the legendary dutch producer and founder of one of the most eclectic underground record labels, vincent koreman aka drvg cvltvre of new york haunted. since 2009, drvg cvltvre has been working on his own blend of dystopian acid, no wave, and experimental house. respected in the international underground for his groundbreaking work in experimental techno as ra-x in the 90′,,s on labels like bunker and kk records, drvg cvltvre comes from a diy punk background and opts for hard work rather than hollow pose. the 4-track ep for new york trax imports is an accurate representation of his style: dark and melancholic, but also uncompromisingly intense.
nicolas lattansio, aka shit, was raised in temperley, a small borough in the city of buenos aires, argentina. in 1996, he had his first encounter with electronic music and has been inseparable ever since. hes in love with the beats and the dance floor. his tracks are played by the likes of djs pareja, alejandro paz, carisma and mijo. hes the founder and resident dj of te re cagamos la fiesta and tokyo, the festival. he defines his music as indie techno, with strong beats, vocals and plenty of attitude. without a doubt, shit is one of the most powerful projects in the neighborhood. the solo en la pista ep shows shit s veritable force in the blooming indie-techno scene growing out of mexico and south america, and the remix with mexico city s ali x x ximena (former azari iii) is an extremely strong dance floor track that has proven itself upon many floors and festivals from burning man and beyond over the course of 2017 in preparation for it s public launch this year.
