mit seiner band junip veröffentlichte er zwei großartige werke, arbeitete am soundtrack zu the secret life of walter mitty mit und steuerte gerade erst seine version von how we walk on the moon zu master mix: red hot + arthur russell bei. vestiges & claws wurde fast komplett von josé gonzález in eigenregie aufgenommen und produziert. zuhause in göteborg nutze er eigentlich nur computer plug-ins, um die songs aufzunehmen und dadurch einen warmen, analogen sound zu erzeugen. musikalisch führt das album das fort, was die beiden vorgänger schon angefangen haben: gedämpft und feinfühlig wirken die lieder, die die wunderbare stimme gonzález und sein verschachteltes gitarrenspiel in den vordergrund setzen ohne dabei besonders laut oder bombastisch sein zu müssen.
