august darnells swaggering alter ego kid creole dons his famed fedora and gets back in stride with his first high profile studio album in over 10 years this summer, i wake up screaming. darnell first came to prominence during the mid-70s in new york, forming dr. buzzards original savannah band with his brother stony browder before producing a slew of eccentric projects for ze records including cristina, don armandos seventh avenue rumba band and gichy dan, as well as sporting his trademark zoot suit and fedora for the first time for the debut recordings by kid creole & the coconuts.

in anticipation of this all-new creolian odyssey, strut unleash the opening single, i do believe, a trippy disco stream of consciousness straight from the mind of darnell touching on greek mythology and other fantastical snapshots. alongside the original album with its unmistakeable double harmonies and infectious slap bass groove, the 12 inch features some mouth-watering mixes: brennan green draws on some todd terry techniques for a hypnotic dub, san francisco dj collective 40 thieves (responsible for dance anthem >dont turn it off< on permanent vacation) take the track into chugging electro funk territory, and nu disco pioneers faze action deliver a smacking 4x4 version with an anthemic piano line. the digital release features extra tracks - the faze action dub and the original radio edit of the track co-produced by august darnell and andy butler (of hercules & love affair) and mixed by brennan green.
