after getting off to a strong start, resolute s disdat sublabel noticeably raises the bar with a heavy hitting cast for its second edition. thomas melchior takes a break from his usual haunts to drop a track brimming with micro house flair, as hillbilly high throws down an infectious run of goofy samples over a solid beat. vincent lemieux meanwhile takes a smoother route with the warm chord-laden atmosphere of in momos jeep, working crafty percussion impeccably in the deep surroundings. rising talent barac meanwhile gets fresh with the cheeky synth lines on his own offering, making this an ep of fresh variations on the minimal house sound.

nach vier alben, die beim legendären john-zorn-label tzadik erschienen, fallen einem bei koby israelite begriffe wie eigenwillig , genial , produktiv , avantgardistisch und passt in keine schublade ein. aber letztlich ist der in israel geborene südlondoner - dessen musikalische reise vom klassischen klavier über den jazz zu speed-metal-drumming bis zum akkordeon führte - ständig auf der suche nach dem perfekten sound. und hierbei spielt es keine rolle, ob dieser von black sabbath, beethoven, bluegrass oder den rumänischen roma inspiriert ist. der sound ist dabei von eindringlicher schönheit, unterstrichen von der schwermütig klingenden armenischen duduk und einem wehmütigen akkordeon, und verbindet die liebe koby israelites zur musik des balkans und dem blues. jenseits des kantigen zusammentreffens von stilen und einflüssen - das album will nicht jedem und immer gefallen - findet man sich in einer welt wieder, die von einer einzigartigen musikalischen vision zusammengehalten wird, die gleichermaßen mutig wie kräftig, fremd wie süß ist.
