its been three years since ghosts on tape (a.k.a. ryan merry) last released an ep of his own, and while the san francisco-based producer has remained busy on the remix front, many have likely missed the transformation hes undergone in the interim.

this double a sided single sees the legendary chronic records on firing form, selecting two of the hottest tracks from brand new eps from rising brazilian stars acuna and critycal dub for a ltd edition vinyl release. chronic, part of the v recordings family has been supplying beats from the biggest d&b producers in the game since 1996. with names like dillinja, krust, lemon d, dj die and ray keith regulars in the back catalogue. in recent years they have pushed through some of the hottest new skool producers in scene like subwave, cabbie, heist, interface, and ruffstuff.

the latest gigolo release is one for the summer! aptly titled hot it comes courtesy of ivano coppola and christian prommer, the former being one of italia s most respected dj s and the latter being, amongst other things, one of the main collaborators for hells critically acclaimed album teufelswerk. taking a sample from willie ninjas classic record hot and building a track around the chords and the vocal leads us to our starting point ivano coppola plastic mix!
ivano coppola has been the resident dj at milan s plastic club since 1992, so it is fair to say that he knows what works on a dance floor, or, to use a popular phrase, what is hot and what is not. it is with this historical knowledge that we find the genesis of our track. i found it necessary to go back in the past, to start producing once again in a 90 style - using samples. the next step was to come back into the future and reach out to christian prommer, highly respected by many including ivan i consider (christian prommer) one of the best producers of the moment! he loved the idea, the remix was huge, and so we decided to co-produce the record. simple!!!
but, for christian this was more then a remix, hence the co-production credit! i liked the idea of translating an early 90 s house-music-sample in to a sample-style-percussive-techno-tune. lots of live played drums and percussion in this one, of course. i only later learned that the sample we used is from one of my house music heroes, maws louie vega. naturally the record found its way into the hands of gigolo in the best way possible, and in the tradition of such a great record label – i played it at the gigolo night in munich and hell came to me dancing and took the tune into his heart.

since this year still hot are proud to welcome martin to their artist rooster. with his new -treat me bad- banger he finally makes his ep debut on still hot and proves his -all in- aspiration yet again. the title track -treat me bad- is an impressive demonstration of how striking electronic music can be when elaborate percussion and sound quality come together. massively powerful and just as smart -treat me bad- promises to have a salient impact on international dancefloors. with gorge we are glad to have another heavyweight on board who gave -treat me bad- a looser and more spherical vibe, however just as danceable as the original.

up next on hot creations is intrepid spaniard dennis cruz. the award winning dj and producer drops some heavy hitting dance-floor dynamite this june, enlisting the production expertise of new yorks joeski for the remix. title track freaks is deep and driving, with its almost slurred vocal, its perfect for those 4am vibes when the freaks come out to play. mother f..cker utilises heavier percussion set off by a pounding bass. the joeski rework of freaks adds a dash of prominent high-hats with the producer softening that unmistakable bass-line. dennis explains this ep is the style of music that i love to play and produce. it s what i feel more comfortable with and what i think defines my sound. dennis cruz has been firmly implanted in the music scene from a young age. he got his first taste for playing music at the age of 17. since then hes gone on to produce tracks for prominent labels such as moon harbour, solid grooves, snatch! and nervous records. his records have been championed by some of the industrys hottest djs from jamie jones to loco dice, and nic fanciulli to marco carola

the afro-funk side of the latin soul maestro! born in gao (mali), boncana maiga is one of the most talented and popular producer of west-african music since the 60s. he studied flute and latin arrangements in cuba during the 60s and founded the famous les maravillas du mali in 1968. he became orchestra leader for the national ivorian tv in abidjan in the mid-seventies, and toured all over the world with the famous africando band. during his recording sessions in nyc at the beginning of the 80’s with a lot of “latin musicians” from puerto rico, venezuela or colombia, boncana maïga also recorded few rare funky tracks with heavy breaks! with the artist, we decided to reissue four rare tracks from 1978 to 1982 dedicated to dancefloor, including a really rare soundtrack for the oil company of ivory coast called petroci. in 2018, hell be back on tour with les maravillas du mali, still have a weekly tv show on tv5 monde and with this reissue will continue to warm your afro-funk parties! fully licensed, 12inch vinyl (45 rpm) including interview. remastered by the carvery!

mallorcas dakpa has been on a roll since amam released his debut ep last fall. he has contributed to several compilations, including amams own hand out series, kina music s fade to k pt. 3 and wizz vinyl s sonar sampler 2014, plus eps for labels like district raw and serial number 849. but amam gets the honor of issuing his first own vinyl release, the distres ep. the opening title track is an exercise in jacking minimalism, vibrant tech house with just the essentials, but more than enough to get the floor moving. then, ademus gets into a slightly more colorful groove, with tropical percussive interplay and some whooping voice for a humanistic accent (is that brigitte bardot?). on the flip, virgo gives a modern update to the frenzy of acid house. the title alone brings virgo four to mind. on that note, this one is an effective tool for warping minds and evoking spastic dance moves. finally, the dependable gaetano vinci a.k.a. hooved reinterprets ademus with a heavy dose of melodic funk and symphonic washes, making the track into an entirely new creation.

you know when the dj drops something so special you’re mentally forced to ask for the track and the reply you get is ”its my own unreleased track”. that’s how i (art alfie) stumbled upon all three of these. about ten years ago i witnessed van rivers & the subliminal kid (peder mannerfelt) turn berghain upside-down with the dark techno epos ”mars attacks”. around the same time i had the luck to see nils westerlund boogle minds with the broken beat psychedelics of ”suspiria” at a stockholm open air. last but not least, a couple of years ago i heard ”thicker than blood” for the first time, like the sirens in greek mythology, it lured people on to the dance floor at stockholms classic summer hot spot f12. i’ve been playing these tracks ever since and im beyond happy i get to share them with the world at this point. //art alfie

this has always been a rare 12inch originally only released in the uk in 1979, phoenix was considered to be too disco at the time and the release pretty much sank without trace - one reason why finding those original uk 12inches is near on impossible these days. just 2 copies on discogs and a mint one will be circa £50 if you re ever lucky enough to find one. however, since 1979 phoenix has grown in stature and what was once considered to be a twee disco tune has now become a huge collector s item and a staple in the right clubs. no surprise really as this is norman connors at the top of his game and the production is red-hot. how phoenix never made it to 12inch vinyl in the u.s. is one of the great mysteries of life but here it is on beautiful fresh 12inch vinyl some 38 years later. as with all our 12inch re-issues we ve replicated the original label. luckily there are no bootlegs to contend with on this release, so this is the first re-issue of this song since the original release date, so order with confidence

it does not happen that often any more that unreleased music from 40 years ago surfaces. even more unlikely it is that the songs put on tape are such treasures. the voltags were right at the forefront of the local washington dc new wave/punk scene of the late 1970s. influenced by kraftwerk, gary numan, the clash, and the b-52 s, they have released only one 45rpm single during their existence. but during the time span of not even 18 months, they had recorded enough material for an entire album - but the songs remained in the can. this is the story of the voltags, a short-lived band which could have become famous and mentioned in the same breath as the aforementioned music legends of that era if their songs had been released back in the day. dive in and enjoy the sound of the voltags, it is truly special. we here at perfect toy are thrilled to be label to finally release their work and we sincerely hope that they are finally getting the appreciation they so richly deserve.

since the millennium 2raumwohnung unites electronic sounds and pop melodies in a variety of ways. the early singles wir trafen uns in einem garten (2000) or 2 von millionen sternen (2001) playfully communicated the life-style of a new berlin. the duo, consisting of inga humpe and tommi eckart, started as a studio project and continued to develop via eight album productions. at the same time, an important impulse included developments in techno or house music. their most successful album 36 grad stayed in the german album-charts for 33 weeks, 2raumwohnung continued to expand their stage range as well.

since the beginning of co&#769,,,,meme, until today we feel a connection to the electronic beats from south africa. co&#769,,,,meme tracks like -pata pata-, -osea... hello?-, -el sucu tucu- and many more prove this, and one main inspiration, is dj spoko, partner of dj mujava, for whom he wrote and produced the legendary -township funk-. but also in joburg, and without our knowledge, co&#769,,,,meme tunes were dropped at some of the coolest parties in town, so matias aguayo aka the don jumped of joy when he was invited to play there, where he met spoko and started to jam with him in a studio in the center of joburg! jamming and smoking till the break of dawn, they put together these tracks, that carry the spirit of this label, the vibe of joburg nights, the “bacardi” rhythms from the atteridgeville township outside pretoria, comemian latin- tech grooves, the dancesteps on the carpet of kitchener s bar in braamfontein and the hotness of a co&#769,,,,meme night in medelli&#769,,,,n, cologne or buenos aires.

the ballroom basement of a hotel. the place for jack nicholsons mean encounter with a ghost or possibly the place for a cocaine laden sexual encounter with part of the media agency elite. the label worked there. and so did pablo. buying talent, slinging drinks, just a couple sneering punk kids looking towards a completely different berlin future. there was a time when rough and tumble crossed paths with diamonds. maybe it created diamonds in the rough? pablo always sent the label demos before the label was a label and could do something with them. pablo has had a string of successes since then (too numerous to point out) and the label became a label. became uncaged. time to let this relationship out of the cage. it is a long way from that ballroom basement, now time to do some thrusting, propelled, grinding, noisy, sonic shit together. house music? is it really? just in case you forgot that no one is all grim guts and clenched teeth, that wild abandon sometimes comes in the form of an ecstatic beach dance, nick höppner comes around and forces you to go out to hasenheide park for a picnic and to pick up a bag of dirt weed. >so fucking buy it<

2022 black repress / green velvet makes his circus recordings debut with bigger than prince, his most talked about track in years!
bigger than prince was born out of a conversation between label boss yousef and green velvet when both played the indonesian leg of the annual circus tour. the idea of the chicago legend contributing a brand new track for the circus x // part 1 compilation was floated and soon he was joining nine other friends of circus who were all to feature in celebration of ten years of events.
*bigger than prince* is a classic green velvet vocal number and sharper and fresher than anything we have heard this summer. quirky and driving, its set to be one of the tracks of the season. to back the original, yousef has drafted in more friends of circus on remix duties, hot since 82 and the martinez brothers.

rediscovered 80’s british acid house gem ‘cortina kidz’ recently made a serious impact on andy butler’s mr. intl with remixes from factory floor and juan maclean & tim sweeney. hot on the heels, moscow’s lipelis’ steps in to remix with striking results. pitchfork enthused of the recent reissue being “a chilly acid-house track operating the influence of both soft cell and the specials,’ xlr8r as “drenched in dark and sleazy overtones, the track encapsulates a downtrodden time in london”, while ransom note noted “cortina kidz is more than just an old skool oddity- it s a banger that s stood the test of time”. originally recorded on london’s stoke newington road in 1987, produced by a young tim brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with virgin records with his band soho, and long before his current role as manager of mercury prize winners, young fathers, ‘cortina kidz’ remained undiscovered and the eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. leonid lipelis explains that “since it’s a reissue of a relatively unknown record it gave me a certain freedom of expression (when it’s something well known and classic you re likely to produce something more serious). i came up with more of a pop song, structured with a vocoder for the main version and had fun playing with vocal samples for the dub mix, paying homage to the 80s sound in both.- lipelis’ recent release on lies records has gained him support from four tet to dimitri from paris. he also runs a side project for hardware jams called tmo and co-runs low budget family records.

zackey force funk was born into this wild world in tucson, az in 1974. in and out of prison since the age of 17, zff began producing on pirated software his brother gave to him once he had given up a life of crime to focus on writing tunes and raising his family. first discovered by kutmah back in the golden era of myspace, zackey’s signature “force funk sound” swiftly grabbed the attention of a number of formidable producers. as these tunes were scattered across various labels, finding their homes on their respective collaborator’s projects, zff continued to hone his style, delving deeper into the psychedelic future funk realm of which he has created for himself. the fruits of his discipline all add up to “electron don” hnr52 a 15-track collection of early productions that serves as the initial transmission of a fantastical mind that has many more stories to tell. “electron don” gathers together various unreleased and classic tracks recorded by zackey force funk circa 2009-2011 in tucson, az. included here are a treasure-trove of classic productions by the electron don himself, as well as tracks by luminaries salva, mike gao, lorn, jellphonic, cupp cave, crimekillz, mark lowe and paolo xz.

”love will remember pharaon de winter” is said at the end of the record. pharaon de winter was a painter from north of france, who lived from the end of the xixth century to the beginning of the xxth century. today, pharaon de winter is reappearing again. it’s a band, but also the name of a song, which changed everything for his author. past leader of both bands toy fight and (please), maxime chamoux was playing since now a genre between north american rock of spoon and neutral milk hotel, and sophisticated british pop from prefab sprout or xtc. we find today in this new project songs navigating between french, for most part, and english. partners and friends since a long time, thomas pirot at the drums and raphael ankierman at the bass are playing alongside fx guéant-mata at the guitar. we also find mina tindle and her delicate voice appearing here and there. at last we don’t forget the goldsmith’s talent of canadian musician sandro perri who’s joining the band, highly recommended by pitchfork magazine with his album impossible spaces in 2011.

:-crimini- is a new independent label born from the experience of some members of the mighty kitchentstudio3, based in bologna italy. the first release contains on the first side three track by nas1 duo. the young duo work at the kitchenstudio3 since 2011, where they produced a lot of good stuff, including a track featuring kyle hall (released by wild oats music), their debut ep on bosconi records, two tracks released by nick anthony simoncino s hotmix records, and many other cool works. on the other side there is a power track, spinning at 45 tmp, produced by the mysterious grienkho, appeared on pushmaster records and austerity, and kosmik, legendary record collector from south of italy.

in the 18 months since his brilliant debut release for we play house, luv jam has been steadily building his profile with a number of releases, and now he returns on vibrations with his first full ep of material since that auspicious first record. the eps a-side is a typically lush foray into stripped back, slo-mo house, with opener tough future utilizing little more than a 303 bassline and 909 kick to slowly build up to its raindrop crescendo, and >rubber band< employing a number a dreamy synths atop its tense, gurgling bass. the pace picks up on the b-side with >last floor hotel (mega mix)< upping the tempo and going into full on acid mode, with its furious pace accented with frenetic cowbell hits and industrial textures. the ep closes with >elastic band< a deeper excursion into jacking house, characterized by its flurry of handclaps, weighed up by its rubbery bassline.

its strange to think that it was only 2010 that saw the first records from christopher manik, aka manik. since exploding onto the scene with his debut ovum release he has gone on to develop and strengthen his own sounds & styles. never pigeonholed, the young new yorker has confidently and creatively placed his music on a variety of the hottest labels of today, whilst always managing to maintain his own unique identity.

alex and bill met 16 years ago when bill signed one of alex s first productions (is this the rhythm? by rhythmnvibe) to a new york label he was running. alex, whose father lives in the us, was a regular visitor to the states and they sent many happy hours together hanging out at the sound factory bar and comparing maw dubs. when bill returned to the uk in 1996, they had a few sessions together making house music, though neither of them can remember why they never finished anything or, indeed, what became of the tracks. fast forward a few years and they finally got back into the studio to make sweet music together under the moniker hotel motel. since then they have created a rich seam of work that some have already described as, like salvador dali with his pants down being fellated by deirdre barlow. few would disagree.
