The pirates of Post-Funk attack with their dirtiest, heaviest 7 inch single to date! The huff-and-puff brute force of *Thang* and the slow burning *Powder* were tracked at the legendary Big Room at Real World Studios in Whiltshire, England and present the band closer than ever to capturing their explosive live sound on tape.
That live sound has been scorching festival stages and club bandstands worldwide over the past five years. And where they are still yet to present it in the flesh, that sound has also reverberated on dance floors, televisions, radios and films. For "Thang / Powder" is the latest in an impressive string of releases which include the Freestyle Records LPs "Buzzin' About" and "Kings"- the latter featuring collaborations with funk trombone pioneer Fred Wesley and world music guru Shlomo Bar- and the 45' singles "Attention!" and the notorious version of "Killing In The Name".
Keeping true to their origins as a spontaneous composition ensemble, they kick ideas up and down the stage in a torrent of Decks, Horns, Double Bass, Drums and Electronic Effects. No digital samplers, no guitars or keyboards and no safety net as the arrangements are reinvented on the spot and the roles of solo and backing instruments change at the blink of an eye to any of the nine members.
Catch the nine wizards conjuring up a menacing flash-storm of horn stabs, cuts n scratches, electronic effects and heavy heavy grooves.
Wether they're tightning the bolts for a sharp unison hit or blowing the gate open for a deep improv stretch, the pure infectious joy The Apples radiate on stage causes immediate uncontrollable smilin', shakin' and sweatin'. Guaranteed. (added: 2013-02-06 16:02:27 )
