The Baltic Soul Orchestra with 2 funky soul nuggets! side A: You re Loosing Me feat. Ann Sexton and on the flipside Merry Go Round feat. Gloria Scott...
Everbody that ever has been to the Baltic Soul Weekender knows that this a special festival with it’s beautiful mix of Soul, Funk, soulful House and electronic tunes located directly at the Baltic Sea. Three days of lovely people, good music and a great atmosphere.
The best thing is if your feet hurt from dancing the cooling Baltic sea is just one step away. In 2008 the Baltic Soul Weekender had two special soul ladies on stage – Ann Sexton and Gloria Scott. Both delivered an unforgetable live experience together with the Baltic Soul Orchestra. Two of the songs performed that night – „You’re Loosing Me“ & „Merry Go Round“ – are now available as a 7“ via Unique Records. This 7 Inch is a little appetizer for an upcoming Baltic Soul Compilation planned for March 2009.
A collector’s item and of course a wonderful memory of the Baltic Soul – not only for visitors! The next Baltic Soul takes place April 24th-26th, 2009.
As a native of South Carolina, Southern soul singer Ann Sexton could croon a smooth ballad or handle the rough, funked-up style that was the hallmark of her region. Ann Sexton recorded mostly for small labels during the '70s, including Impel and Dash, and did the majority of her work for the Sound Stage 7/77 family. Her biggest chart single was 1973's "You're Gonna Miss Me" which just barely made the R&B Top 50. Funky singles like "You're Losing Me" and "You've Been Gone Too Long" later became popular on Britain's so-called Northern soul scene. But she also recorded some smoother-sounding ballads, including the 1977 R&B chart single "I'm His Wife (You're Just a Friend)".
Sound Stage 7 issued one Sexton LP – „The Beginning“ - while the U.K. label Charly compiled some of her single sides as Love Trials in 1986. Charly later issued the more comprehensive CD-era collection You're Gonna Miss Me in 1995.
