the ohmgrown series is about more music and less industry. its dub phizix way of getting his ideas to people in the fastest way possible. the entire process- sound design, writing, mixing, mastering will be done in-house by dub phizix, as are the visual elements to accompany the music. there will be no set sound or aesthetic to the series instead the focus is on giving people a window into where he’s at musically and what is inspiring him at the time of creation.

critical come extremely correct once more with what is bound to be an early summer smash as a certain dub phizix picks up where the almighty marka left off. teaming up with fellow manchester scene stalwart fox proves an inspired choice here which critical just couldnt ignore, so invited him back to drop these two more astonishingly fresh tracks for this, his second outing on the label. simply put, >never been< is baaaaaad man business. a lean, stripped back percussive intro leads us to a breakdown where fox greets us with the sickest of vocal hooks that you will be trying to decipher until the end. when the tribal half-time break drops its time to bounce as the undulating b-line rolls heavy throughout with dub phizix teasing with awesome drumedits and amen shakedowns. riddim! cinematic soundscapes and a solid beats combine on >codec<, a more bass-led slab of equally dance floor drum & bass that retains the dub phizix air of originality with an experimental break the kicks like a mule. another winner without doubt from a very exciting splinter cell coming out of the north of the uk right now.

when dub phizix last graced the exit catalogue alongside skeptical and strategy for the now classic *marka* single, the response was immense. getting played by djs across the board from the likes of skream, david rodigan, shy fx, chase & status, andy c, dbridge, marcus intalex, toddla t, mista jam, friction, zane lowe, breakage, mary anne hobbs (in fact, there is probably too many djs names to fit on this page) it became not only a club and radio anthem but also a youtube hit with nearly 2 million plays to date. just over a year later, a couple of trips djing around the world he is back with another one of manchesters finest mcs (also from the estate recordings camp) skittles. hot off the back of his album *poor with £100 trainers* he combines with dub phizix on *i m a creator* to make another yet dancefloor anthem. tearing up clubs and festivals since the distant summer months, it has become another certified dj tool guaranteed get any party going.

after taking drum & bass, and indeed the entire electronic music scene by storm last year with the genre bending marka on exit records, the power duo of dub phizix & skeptical have been kept busy taking their unique hybrid sound on the road with dj appearances all over the world. musically, there have been follow ups from both parties, but now samurai music presents the full follow up single to marka from the duo with 2 vocal dancefloor weapons laced again by talented manchester mcs. run it like the president is a stepping slab of menace that t man laces with his unique monotone delivery, a tune that is already spawning bootlegs like a virus before any release was in sight. half man takes slices of dancehall, hip hop, drum n bass, covers them with an infectious sparkz rhyme and churns them out over a staggering triplet rhythm set to confuse djs but ignite dancefloors. kept tight to our chests until now, this 12 inch is set to explode across radio waves and dj playlists the world over. run it!

the 2nd 12 inch taken from forth coming commercial suicide compilation. s.p.ys bulldozer is a ruthless roller. heavy and heady, it takes you deep into dark caverns only to drop you back in all the right places. on the flip dub phizix - scum. this sparse heavy roller draws you into an addictive groove from the outset. chunky beats, moody warped sub bass and funk ensure a vital dance floor scuffle.

manchester label soul:r first launched back in 2001 with releases from calibre, marcus intalex, marky and more that firmly established them as the go to label for dancefloor friendly drum n bass that soothed the ears rather than assaulted them. 10 years on and they are still at the top of their game with this release from dub phizix. the editor & narrow eyes. featuring the vocal talents of strategy, fox & chimpo. a real half time hip hop/grime feel but the drums work hard enough to pull apart the dance.

keeping things as fresh as ever, kasra’s modulations imprint picks up some more rocksteady beats from someone on the tip of everyone’s tongues at the moment, dub phizix. with other releases already on soul:r, fabio’s creative source, ingredients and more this is one manchester export that we’ll be hearing a lot more of in then future. ‘break it’ kicks off with a simple intro with only a teasing glimpse of the bass that’s about to drop but when it does you’d best be ready! a stepper’s paradise then as the staccato break rolls on with deep sub and the gurgling mid-range that serve the ‘break it’ vocal perfectly. a very polished production indeed. ‘four’ is all pitched down warning sirens and sinister pads from the off, creating an uneasy atmosphere for the crystal clear beats to bump into and move out across another slab of delicate but dangerous d&b for the deeper heads on the floor. fans of old krust records are gonna love this! dj support from d bridge, spectrasoul, kasra, marcus intalex, jubei and more.

a duo to watch closely throughout 2011 and beyond drop 2 minimal punchy blinders on dispatch. skeptical and dub phizix come more than correct with >silo< and >the enemy< and it appears we are not the only ones that love these 2 tracks as they are getting a rather heavy dose of support from the likes of skream, d-bridge, ant tc1, octane & dlr, survival, loxy, nymfo, teebee, vc and ulterior motive! watch out for more from these 2 on the label real soon!

dub phizix is a fresh name for 2011. his unique style has won over many people including soul:r & creative source with whom he has 12 inches coming soon. his punchy production and clever arrangement impressed us at ingredients and these two tracks have been on heavy rotation for the last 6 months. >out there< is reminiscent of photeks drums and sounds, a great intro track. while >athos< is a brave tune, some future thinking drum & bass with its tribal rhythms.

big tune! so much attention this year has been on the minimal sounds within drum & bass. skeptical, a name creeping up the chain, has really honed this skill of keeping it minimal yet powerful. >cold one< is arguably his finest tune to date. bringing back the hoovers, while delivering a totally fresh style, this is a must have tune. dub phizix from manchester, is another new name, but with a slew of releases on big labels pending it wont be long before he becomes a buy on sight artist. this co-lab with skeptical is absolutely dangerous, watch the bassbins, i am telling ya!
