(180 gr, purple/pink/white marbled coloured vinyl) morning star is a combination of the sound of the congos and the pura vida sound. it features 6 new congos songs, 3 songs from pura vida and a dubversion called dub love. the album has the vintage lastark sound and was mixed the oldschool way using the mixer as an instrument.

the ultimate edition of the roots reggae masterpiece release 1977-2017! the album classic was originally issued in 1977 in jamaica only and 20 years later in 1997 released by the blood & fire label as the outstanding but now deleted heart of the congos. vp records sub-label 17 north parade has released now the definitive 2017 re-mastered 3lp deluxe edition put together with both respect and gratitude to that illustrious antecedent (also available as 3cd-set incl. the ultrarare original lp mix). this new 3lp-vinyl-set is based on the more well-known mix and master from the blood & fire re-release, plus dubs, disco mixes, seven and twelve inch versions and has with -don’t blame it on i- an overlooked previously unreleased track unearthed. the 3lp-vinyl was state-of the-art re-mastered again by kevin metcalfe and comes in a 6mm spine jacket sleeve with full colour printed illustrated inner sleeves and the liner notes by noel hawks. stickered with the quote: the best roots reggae album ever...(lloyd bradley)

the congos starteten ihre karriere als duo, bestehend aus cedric myton und roy johnson. das debütalbum, 1977 von lee perry im black ark studio produziert, ist im originalcover wieder lieferbar. die beiden sänger wurden hierbei vom harmoniegesang der meditations, sowie von watty bennett und candy mckenzie unterstützt. die wichtigsten musiker waren boris gardiner (bass), ernest ranglin & robert billy johnson (gitarren), keith sterling & winston wright (piano & orgel), michael richards sowie sly dunbar (schlagzeug) und nicht zuletzt die perkussionisten skully sims und brother joe.

das album von 1979 ist als lp-vinyl erhältlich! congo ashanti war der nachfolger des 77er kultalbum heart of the congos und wurde in den harry j & aquarius studios von folgenden musikern eingespielt: santa davis, sly dunbar (drums), boris gardiner, geoffrey chung, phillipe quilchini (bass), ernest ranglin, lennox gordon, willie lindo (lead guitar), earl chinna smith, willie lindo (rhythm guitar), keith sterling, harold butler (organ & piano), deadly headley bennett, tommy mccook (saxophone), uziak sticky thompson, the congos (percussion) am mischpult saßen dabei sylvan morrris & mervyn williams, der finale mix wurde von geoffrey chung & nadette duget in byron lees dynamic studio ausgeführt. the congos fungieren hier als trio in der besetzung cedric myton (lead vocals), sowie roy johnson, watty burnett (harmony vocals).
