dark entries presents all four mixes of transdance by night moves as a tribute dedicated to the lives lost in the oakland ghost ship fire on december 2, 2016. night moves was the brainchild of michael guihen, from south london. inspired by seeing tubeway army perform on top of the pops in 1979 he placed an ad to form a synth-based band in the nme. in november 1980 he was introduced to denis haines, formerly gary numans keyboardist on the telekon album. denis and michael worked closely together, writing a number of backing tracks. one of these was the farewell song from gary numan to his band tubeway army, love needs no disguise. in exchange for this backing track, denis gave michael the studio time needed to develop transdance

the mythical transdance from uk duo night moves is given a much needed official repress by domestica records and the barcelona label have spared no expense. a limited pressing of 400 10-s come housed in hand screen printed sleeves accompanied by a leaflet with complete biography of the band. despite the paucity of night moves discography, it s clear the duo of michael guihen and john davis have had an everlasting effect on the canon of synth music with their much admired debut. transdance was originally released as a limited 12- white label in 1981, finding favour on the dance floors of europe and new york city yet never really gained the wider exposure it richly deserved. original copies of the gc1 pressing of transdance still command slightly ridiculous prices on discogs so kudos to domestica for this rather special presentation which features a previously unreleased demo cut -life up- on the flip.

2009 gründeten john pelant, micky alfano und mark ritsema night moves eine band, die nicht nur auf pressefotos beeindruckt. nach dem einstieg von drummer jared isabella anfang letzten jahres war die band vollständig und wurde schnell von domino records entdeckt. im märz erscheint nun auch in europa das debütalbum colored emotions mit seiner knieerschütternden mischung aus folk, dream-pop, psychedelic und natürlich der wahnsinnsstimme von sänger john und einer bandoptik, die trotz all der nebensächlichkeit einfach nicht unerwähnt bleiben darf. als produzent fungiert thom monahan der bereits für devendra banhart oder den beachwood sparks an den reglern saß!
