2018 has been a big year for dope ammo so far, what with the smash refix of -wishin on a star-, countless collaborations with a whole host of talents artists and fitting in a tour of europe. it comes as no surprise that it s now time to unleash a heavy hitting album in the form of -influence-. this isn t strictly a drum and bass affair either and with styles perfectly crossing in and out of each other, it s a true representation of dope ammo s creative production flair.

based in brno, czech republic - nona records is a multi-faceted party collective who provide a safe space for sound artists, producers, promoters and anybody in between. with operations that include a synth company called bastl instruments and a party venue called herna - they re no strangers to uniting artists and curating rich, monochromatic music primed for clued-up dancefloors.
with previous releases from omsk information & dr. walker, patricia and abayomi amongst others, the 20th release in their catalogue comes from julia who makes his debut on the label. originally from the us, now based in prague, julia honed his flair for live-improvised, hardware techno in warehouse parties and after hour events. it is this approach he adopts across his 4-track ep for nona.

new zealander julien dyne is a multi-instrumentalist with a long and impressive history of collaborative, live and solo musicianship. best known for his solo work on bbe and having worked with the likes of theo parrish, steve spacek, andreya triana and lord echo - one of soundway’s most successful artists. dyne has also accumulated a number of accolades over the course of a 10-year career including but not exclusive to being hotly tipped by both moodymann and gilles peterson.
dyne’s new project for 2018 is an 11-track lp on miles cleret’s extolled soundway label. demonstrating a shift in gears and movement toward a more uptempo, afro inspired sound ‘teal’ melds instrumental flair with astute production and a persistent grain of impassioned, effortless soul. the album features fellow new zealanders lord echo and mara tk, long term band-mate ladi6, fat freddy’s drop trumpeter toby laing, plus australian vocalist tim guy and jazz luminaries jonathan crayford and john bell. this is a body of work for the listener and the dancer alike with a mood as fitting for headphones as it is for the floor, with the double vinyl album cut loud at 45 rpm.

!!! 2018 repress !!! of nu guinea’s outstanding ‘world’ ep – the neapolitan duo is set to release new material on tartelet later in the year as part of the labels 10 th anniversary. the beautifully dislocated bougainvilles live lays out some warm analogue textures across a live percussion base, while the vocal edit of title track nu world ploughs a similar furrow to obscure 80’s afro-disco, with rich musical synth work over a pacey afro groove and undeniable jazz-funk flair. the flute mix passes over the vocal refrain from mix one and just gets down and wigs-out on those solos - an absolute killer! exotica dance club sounds like herbie visited the salsoul studios with his banks of analogue gear and jammed out into the small hours, as we head home on the beatless outro, all synth washes and lavish ear candy.

this is the debut release on noir music from brazilian k.a.l.i.l. we have been working quite some time to perfect this first release from him on the label and give it the edge needed to stand out. after tons of road-testing and going back and forth with production ideas i am now happy to have 2 perfect tracks ready from k.a.l.i.l. that really showcase his super solid techno sound and production flair. “involved” (co-produced with any mello) is a quite simple trip with any’s spoken word in center of industrial elements wobling it and out. this track works really well in the clubs because of its on point minimalism, the high intensity stacatto synths and the catchy vocal line from any. it’s not easy to do big tracks without big basslines – but that’s what k.a.l.i.l. and any mello truely achieved with this one. “revolved” is a track i signed already last year and since then k.a.l.i.l. has been perfecting everything about the track from small details to bigger arrangement improvements. this track has that big bassline that sits right in your face. it also has the right build for those peaktime moments in the clubs. i have been playing “revolved” a lot over the past months and people go crazy for those big bass drops. we are honored to have another great producer join the noir music family and proud to have another belter of a release ready for you.

is it balearic? welcome the mellow charms of chris coco and camillo miranda to lay down an unusual paean to a prehistoric love with the truly breezy drifter dinosaur baby. while the tale might be a quirky one, the music is the real deal, all tumbling percussion locked into a slow, head-nodding groove, and this comes through even stronger on the 12inch dub. on the flip, rune lindbaek delivers a remix that fleshes the original out with laconic disco flourihes, and then luke solomons version injects a little housey energy into the make up with his usual flair for off-kilter party fuel.

after sharing his flair for producing polished house grooves on kwench records’ last ep, philly veteran pete moss returns to collaborate with cassy on the fifth release. this instalment gives two original tracks, and introduces aus music steamroller marquis hawkes into the fold as remixer. keeping to mind that cassy’s motive was to produce with esteemed artists that she personally came to admire, to be enlisted on two eps is a testament to moss’s finesse. for marquis hawkes, cassy’s admiration runs deep into his ability to expertly produce quality house music on many levels. last year he had three critically exclaimed releases on aus music, with ‘the basement is burning’ ep securing its place as a summer smash.

junes kicks off a new imprint, dote, with a full-length exploration of the direct yet dreamlike sound he s made his own. with his usual flair for crisp grooves and ghostly palettes, a view reveals a broader range of nuanced vibes. second wind and stop, elate show a playful buoyancy, and a sense of discovery in tracks like balancing act and two-sided embrace add a narrative pace to the collection. there s time for some of the creeping, spaced out atmospheres that hallmark some of junes previous best, but with tracks like packaging, the realisation of this sound is richer than ever. there s a restless feel throughout the work, too – especially evident in the closer spooked – and a feeling that we ve been on a trip that doesn t end here.

real name takeshi fukushima, takecha has been a key figure within japan’s electronic music scene for decades and belongs to the same pioneering crew as soichi terada and shinichiro yokota. now in his mid- fifties, ‘deep soundscapes’ is an album encompassing fukushima’s sound with every track written by the producer between 1990 and 2013. intricate percussion and crystalline chords set the tone in ‘deep drive’ before a funky bassline joins serene synths in ‘midnight things’. appearing in soichi terada’s mix for resident advisor (under its promo title ‘deep loop c’), ‘gradual atmosphere’ is comprised of a galloping beat and saccharine chimes, ‘factory 141’ sees takecha demonstrate a murkier aesthetic, whilst ‘rhodes detox’ is a definitive example of takecha’s flair for expertly balancing elements within his productions. an homage to shufflepuck cafe&#769,,, an old mac plus video game takecha would play on a black and white 9- inch monitor back in the day, ‘shufflepuck’ blends ghostly melodies with clicks, whirrs and pops. ‘calm imagination’ is a poignant affair from start to finish with its hypnotising atmosphere, contrasting to the more up-tempo ‘warm rondo’ with its soulful keys and purring low-end. tying it all together, ‘genuine innocence’ is a cut that takecha made two versions of, one with a solo from a pianist and another with more emphasis on the beat, the latter of which appears on this album.-

his latest release i know from elypsia records is a quintet of detroit inspired remixes of the song i know. inspired by kevin saunderson, his original techno mix (7:06) is a hardcore and high energy track with intensity to match the wildest of crowds. the ep also contains 3 remixes of the track, each exposing and accentuating the brilliant aspects of his complex tune. it begins with the lucien foort remix (6:41), a lively big room hit with a punch fit for an epic saturday night. uk mix (6:46) follows with subtle electric melo-dies and rhythmic drum and bass patterns that give listeners the feel of wonder and excitement under a clear starry sky. with a clean and gravitating groove bit float remix (7:42) would fit perfectly in any ibiza party with flair and style.

luis junior’s track -ipsum- continues to play with a slight spa-nish flair reminiscent of his previous output with us. “2db2” offers some more floor-ruffness and technoid play.

a warm welcome to detroit producer javonntte for his first quintessentials release. javonntte has been releasing his blend of pure deep house quality for years and his how is club246 is another fine example of his great talent. so how is club246? first of all the title is an hommage to a club in detroit in 1996. and javonnttes interpretation of club246 is diverse! the opening track has a slight kerri chandler flair, whereas club246 is a pure pumping club tool for all you djs out there. the b-side goes deeper. worldmix is a slow, deep (hell yeah) and hip hopish low bpm groover, whereas citylights is a classic vocal deep house track. club246? proper house music all night long!

gulf points expanding roster delivers a twist with the introduction of vienna-based alexey lanvin. men s fashion connoisseur by day, one look diarises alexey s private persona as he broods over the octaves with acutely romantic flair. his series of short online videos hint at a realm where long stares, midnight moods and south beach style are everyday fare a vision fellow pastel chief and label boss benny badge simply couldn t ignore. one look- opens this window to lanvin s electrifying world even further, his talking keyboards ready as ever to converse. alexey gets straight to the point, launching into two searing ballads full of silky rhodes and evocative textures. while an ominous inner-city funk adorns all songs, its definitely miami when the upbeat items arrive (both good love and lips could score one of crockett s fleeting love scenes in easy fashion) - suggesting his high street antics are merely a front for his downtown demeanour. ep includes: standing out, in and out of love, your eyes, good love, lips, cassette only bonus track. arranged and recorded entirely at alexey s home studio with minor alterations by benny badge at secret heat music.

as ever, the next project on opilec music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss i-robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders ahzz. this track was first released on land of hits, a label run by peter brown (who also wrote -material girl- for madonna) and michael campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by opilec music. the track, new york s movin was huge on the new york disco scene and was played by the likes of david mancuso at the loft, larry levan at the paradise garage and by nicky siano at studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern new york tastemakers kenny dope, dj spinna, danny krivit and his body & soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like motor city drum ensemble and bulljun. i-robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take i) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums. a retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. this version is featured on the new i-robots - reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year anniversary release. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take ii) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk. this is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves opilec music work on only the most special projects.
