In todays digitally obsessed world it is a cause for celebration when a record label reaches its 10th vinyl release. A year old, Electric Minds reaches this mile stone and in doing so presents one of its most exciting releases to date.

For this special release label artists Yam Who? & Ilija Rudman join Innervisions’ Lil Tony to present their modern day interpretations of Arthur Russell’s work. Relatively unknown during his life, a series of reissues and posthumous releases has raised Russell’s profile in recent years. His timeless productions whilst not truly understood when they were first released, 25 years later his songs are considered to be the back bone of today’s dance music. Such is the importance of Russell’s contribution to the modern music scene that many consider his work to be untouchable but in this release all 3 producers have carefully picked out key elements of his songs whilst recording an entirely new and up to date soundtrack. Released in 1985 on Jump Street Records and featuring vocals by Lola Blank, Yam Who? and Ilija Rudman have worked on “Wax the Van”; whilst Lil Toni strips down “Treehouse” & was originally released on Sleeping Bag Records in 1986. The A side by Yam Who? stays true to the original proto house style but takes the production into the modern era. Already finding itself being dropped simultaneously by the techno fraternity, deep house heads & the nudisco kings. Lil Tony from Innervisions steps in with his stripped down house mix of “Treehouse”. With its minimalist beats this cut has already proved popular with the likes of Ame & Dixon and is sure to be a useful DJ tool for the dance floor. Last up Ilija Rudman bring his own version of “Wax The Van”. Using live instruments Ilija has captured the original vibe of this historic project while adding his own modern twist. Using EMU II, Fender Stratocaster with old tube VOX amplifier, some LINN drum percussions, Roland TR drums and Fender bass guitar the track is a bouncy number
