"For some, the essence of new beat was the gloomy atmosphere, the slowly ever hitting
repetitive beats, all crawling further at lo RPM, resulting in a trancey ambience far away
from the poppy scene. This “Lost On The Way To Destelbergen” (Destelbergen was the
home town of legendary and long gone club Boccaccio) continues on that path and is one
hell of a dark soundscape hitting firmly while hovering on slightly dramatic strings. Was it

"Fantastic release. Although it was released in march 2006, this is a real oldskool record. It
sounds like the Hardbeat records from 1989 on Complete Kaos. Even the sleeve has that
oldskool look. The first track "2006=1989" refers to Edwards and Armani's "Acid Drill" with
a strong military shout in the intro. The second one "2006=1988" is a very dark new-beat
track with some heavy basses. "Acid Reprise" is just brilliant! It's a pitty that it's so short.

Number Nine

Number Nine Multimedia Lab. (a.k.a. N9) is an independent multimedia label based in
France. It was originally intended as an outfit for the music releases of the eponymous
French Techno-house band Number Nine. After a bunch of tracks in the early days of
Techno & Rave explosion, N9 left the field during the 90’ to focus on graphic design, and
conceptual Typography. Encouraged by the Oldskool Lovers community on Discogs.com's
forum, N9 went back in the music area in 2005, and started releasing new tracks in the
Electro-Techno and Electronica styles, as much as pioneering the revival of the Acid New
Beat genre under the French Theory alias in 2006.
N9 is based in Paris, France, and headed by Guillaume-Ulrich Chifflot, who is also a multiawarded
creative director in Advertising, and designing record sleeves for various labels.

Fenix Fire records

Founded in 2016 by Willem Voet, Fenix Fire Records is a Belgian label based in Deurne
(Antwerp) with a mission to bring the New Beat-genre back to life.
With more than 20 releases to date, 4 opus of its famous Fashion Victims compilation EPs,
and with more on the roaster, the label keeps proposing a steady flow of new talents like
Q’Pnz, Koner, Shimanski Beats, VV303 or Jack Matthew Tyson, as long as unleashing new twist
on revered anthem like Amnesia’s « Ibiza ». From the EBM dark edges to the Acid-infused
borders, all flavors of New beat are joining forces to get the Fire burning and the Fenix rising again.
