At the time of its original release in 1993, Detroit techno producer Carl Craig was known mostly to a small circle of collectors in Europe. His early releases on Transmat and Fragile had become cult classics on the techno underground. These were followed by a series of stunning releases on his co-owned Retroactive label. 1993 saw Carl launch his Planet E label and he released an EP by 69 followed by an EP of material by ART owner Kirk Degiorgio (Future/Past) and Ed Handley of The Black Dog (Balil). It return it was agreed Carl would record an EP for ART - which became ART 3.
