PRAISE-JAH
12 Inch 10.03.17
invisible city editions is proud to officially re-release the sublime extended 12inch version of praise jah with soaring vocals and wild electronics. big tip!. oluko imo was a trinidadian born multi-instrumentalist, founder of the legendary spiritual afro jazz groups mansa musa and the black truth rhythm band. he moved to new york city in the 80s and divided his time between teaching music there and touring africa with fela kuti as both his manager and part of the band. praise jah is imo’s crowning achievement. an elevated electronic mantra that perfectly fuses synthy soca disco with his spiritual afro-trinidadian leanings. its a timeless piece of music that sounds as visionary today as it did when it emerged from the aether back in 1979. limited pressing with embossed sleeve, designed by zeitype.

SOCA HUSTLE / LET ME LOVE (7 INCH)
7 Inch 26.03.18
one of the most mysterious and outsider soca 45s out there by h.m. these eyes timothy. the a-side let me love sounds like doo wop recorded with oluko imo s gear. and the b-side soca hustle sounds like the residents jamming a marvin whoremonger song with augustus pablo. the original 45 is so obscure that even his siblings didnt know that he made music. and rumour has it that, frustrated by its lack of success, michael threw most of the copies of the 45 in the valley beside his family s house in the hills just outside port of spain. one-time pressing of 500 copies

CARIBBEAN DISCO BOOGIE SOUNDS (LP)
12 Inch LP 02.12.15
it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.

12 Inch 26.02.13
the latest offering from the balearica imprint featuring more top quality sun-kissed gems. first up is derrick harriots *black skin blue eyed boys*, a fantastic reggae disco cover version of the equals classic originally released on the mega rare *acid rock* lp back in 1982. following this bomb is the funky party killer, david lampells *iranian groove*. the flip side features the exceptionally hard to come by 12 inch version of *praise jah* by trinidadian singer oluko imo that captivates with its predominant funk bassline and inventive keys. finally, we have amadeos hugely in-demand *memories*, a spacey balearic disco groover that has been popping up on many djs most wanted lists ever since it was one of the standouts of harveys brilliant *sarcastic disco mix*. wonderful stuff!

IFETAYO (CD)
CD 21.12.11
soundway return once more to the caribbean and are proud to present ifetaya by black truth rhythm band, originally released in 1976. led by the charismatic oluko imo, ifetaya was the only release from the afro-centric trinidadian band and is re-issued here for the first time on cd. whereas most of their peers at the time were looking to the funk of the usa & james brown for inspiration, black truth rhythm band looked to africa, fusing rhythms from africa & the west indies with elements of jazz, funk, calypsoand soul. ifetayo was to be the only release from black truth rhythm band but imo continued his music and love of african rhythms, going onto record with fela kuti in 1988 and later on perform with members of felas egypt 80 band.
