Following a heavily supported launch in July, Disco Bloodbath Recordings delivers its second single this August in Hand Plants >Gone Ghost<, backed with a remix from Jamie Blanco. Comprising one half Disco Bloodbath (Ben Pistor) and one half Maxxi Soundsystem (Sam Watts), Hand Plant is about old and new synths, samples, berlin, aircraft, what happens in the early hours, ecstasy pads that make you rush ...

‘Gone Ghost’ opens the label’s second release with imposing bass and filtered synth brass that, combined with melodic percussion and increasingly heady synth work, develops into a markedly original piece of contemporary house that draws on a myriad of aesthetics. Impossible to pin down throughout, ‘Gone Ghost’ is epic, well-judged future-retro business and the sound of two likeminded musical souls getting down. They put it better themselves: Jamie Blanco, who caught many an ear with his superb ‘Moving Down’/’Night Closure’ 12” on Cynic last year, turns in an Acid Rework of ‘Gone Ghost’, delivering the promised 303 lick and much more to boot. Yet another winner for the hyped yet elusive producer and a fine piece of A&R from Disco Bloodbath Recordings. The fever-dream funk of the anarchic ‘Arpy’ closes the release with an aggressive flourish. Ingesting Italo, electro, proto-rave and gobbing it on to a grimy basement dancefloor, it’s yet another element of this EP that takes a robust stance against predictability.
