Lil Silva's arrival in dance music in late 2008 was explosive.
Here was an 18-year-old from Bedford making music with all the minimal machine funk of Chicago’s Trax label, the aggression of early grime, a tropical resonance with soca and the sonic invention of The Neptunes. His debut 12”, 'Seasons' B2B with 'Funky Flex' defined the early moments of UK Funky. His next white label mixed blended proto-grime tune ‘Pulse X’ with his own ‘Funky Flex’, creating a proto-funky classic. The undeniable brilliance of his tracks has seen DJs champion him from outside the gritty UK grime, garage and funky scenes. Dubstep svengali Kode 9 has weaved them into his sets. Berlin’s Modeselektor have played them to German techno heads. In 2010 he released the ‘Night Skanker’ EP on the years essential dance label Night Slugs. With vocal collaborations and new EP on 2011’s rising Good Years label, 21-year-old Lil Silva keeps growing.
