Glasgow based Alan Bryden aka Sidewinder is a full time musician and
DJ, producing four singles for Fenetik Music. The SIDEWINDER sound
has been a compilation staple for the last few years, with
appearances on the hundred thousand selling, ‘ALL BACK TO MINE’ mix
by GROOVE ARMADA for DMC back in 2000 to the more recent ‘CHILLOUT
SESSION SUMMER 2003’ for MINISTRY OF SOUND. His music has been no
less of a hit around the world with everyone from NAKED MUSIC &
GUIDANCE (US), UNIVERSAL JAZZ (GERMANY), ZUB MUSIC (SPAIN)
FAT CITY(UK), MUSICA ALTERNATIVA (PORTUGAL) and even global
broadcasterslike HBO and SKY all licensing SIDEWINDER tracks.

As an established DJ and live performer, he is a resident at Slam
club Freelance Science and a regular at the PRESSURE nights. Other
places played have included T in the Park, Fabric and The End in
London, The Beat in Edinburgh, Food and Session O in Belgium, Warm
in Eindhoven and various Clubs in São Paulo.

As a classically trained cellist he has been absorbed in music from
a young age. As a teenager he achieved grade VIII with merit and he
played for several years in the Reading Youth Orchestra and
performed at venues like the Royal Albert hall, South Bank Centre,
St Johns Smith Square and various venues in Dusseldorf and
Strasbourg as part of the 1989 festival of youth music in Europe.

He first started goofing around with drum machines and synthesisers
many years ago while attending Glasgow’s School of Art. Here he
befriended another artist and musician, Daniel Ibbotson and together
they recorded some idiosyncratic, electronic music, which saw the
light of day courtesy of Tony Thorpe's Language Records. This
creative encounter kickstarted Alan's own particular style of
writing and recording and following the purchase of an AKAI sampler
he started to piece together tracks of his own. When Glaswegian DJ
and promoter Paul Cawley hooked up with SOMA and launched FENETIK
Music in 1998, Alan's jazzy
SIDEWINDER project became one of the labels first releases.

More recently he was selected to travel to São Paulo Brazil for
three weeks as part of a collaborative contemporary music project
organised by the British Council. The idea behind this ambitious
project was to bring together a group of sixteen musicians from both
Scotland and Brazil. The artist’s chosen covered a wide range of
styles and backgrounds, the Scottish selection included traditional
folk music, contemporary classical, jazz, indie and electronica
(represented by Sidewinder). The Brazilians were equally diverse and
included a guitarist, drummer, double bassist, bossa nova pianist,
traditional vocalist and accordion player.

The group collaborated with each other to produce a ninety minute
set of entirely original material which was then played at five
sell-out concerts in São Paulo and Curitiba. In November and December the
Brazilians are coming over to tour the UK with the show.
