Lovebirds, aka Sebastian ‘Basti’ Döring from Hamburg, Germany, is big news right now. His releases for Winding Road, Freerange and Teardrop have catapulted him into the limelight as the one of the hottest name in underground house music. Having always selected the labels he releases his music on carefully, Basti has now chosen another massively respected imprint in Fred Everything’s Lazy Days Recordings. Fred got in touch after Vincenzo passed him on Lovebirds’s first EP to be on Teardrop and future classic Gentle. The track was a stapple in Fred’s set for over a year before the release saw the light of day. This three track EP explores different avenues of Dance Music. The main track, N2Deep, is a driving, simple groover that’s been doing damages in Fred’s sets and recent podcast. On the B-Side, we have something different for the label. Steelhorn, a beautiful mid-tempo track as well as the amazing down tempo disco: U Give Me. In Basti’s own words, “The Lovebirds sound is like a blast from the past with house steroids packing serious production muscle. Listening to Lovebirds is like taking trip back to the 70s and 80s - but riding in a gleaming futuristic spaceship.” Although the Lovebirds name has burst onto the scene relatively recently, Basti is no newcomer. As half of Knee Deep with Toddie Freese. He djed around the world and remixed the likes of Jamiroquai, Bob Sinclair, David Morales, Brandy and many others. In 2002, Knee Deep won the prestigious ‘Best Remixer’ category in the German Dance Awards, beating Timo Maas along the way. As Lovebirds, Basti first released on Trax Of Interest in 2000 then a few eps on Winding Road and the rest is history. Fans of Lovebirds include Tom Middleton, Danny Howells, Jimpster ( who has released an EP and remixes on Freerange), Ben Watt (who is in regular contact and signed a track for a compilation) and Fred Everything. Basti and Vincenzo have recently launched their own label Teardrop Records, which is destined to become an essential new addition to the house library with Fred Remixing their forthcoming M.U.S.I.C. track.
