purists will have their desires satiated with the driving, undulating title track and dancefloor favourite ’altered states of consciousness’ while the rest of the ep sees mario take his style into exploration mode. ‘beyond belief’ functions as an emotive centre point to the releases’ varied moods, while the off kilter static of ‘over a sign recognition’ and the writhing bounce of ‘recoil’ and ’frame dislocation’ complete the carefully sculpted form of the release.
‘body sedation’ works in a listening environment as well as it does on an open minded dance floor, and we can confidently say, it’s built to last.

for atrophic societys 10th release, simply titled x, material object has delved into his archives to uncover a previously unreleased co-production with audio injection in the form of cwejack. effectual and triumphant. marching forward with purpose. a treasure. a perfect fit. grindr, material objects other contribution, takes us to the wild edge of sonic exploration and back again. music poised to push us into the abyss with acidic snarls and overwhelming drones, a writhing black sea swallowing everything in its path. married with vohkinne’s vestigial structures and device one (risualistic), the theme of the ep takes shape. non-standard music for non-standard people. x marks the spot. get lost, drown, buried deep. go beyond.

radio slave’s colossal ‘the revenge’ track now gets expert remix treatment from klasse wrecks label head luca lozano. luca has also released on the likes of optimo, sex tags ufo and unknown to the unknown and brings a raw, acid tinged sound to his beats. as a performer lozano’s versatile dj sets span between raw house, cosmic disco and dynamic breakbeat selections, which is why he’s become a regular at key clubs across europe and tasteful festivals like houghton. his ‘how bow dis’ remix’ is solid and features wild old school flavours in its huge drum breaks, a monstrous bassline and dark filtered vocals. it bangs for seven superbly heavy minutes with plenty of twists and turns along the way, and will transform any club or warehouse into a writhing, sweaty mass in seconds. on the flip, his ‘how bow dah’’ version is based around elastic drums and rumbling bass while a loose synth line darts about up top. some distant synths bring a sense of serenity to the madness and so despite the physical impact of this one, it also has real emotion to it.

the third release by the paris based public system recordings knows no bounds or borders. a massive 2x12 inch compilation featuring the likes of fallbeil, innsyter, morah, buttechno and many more from the realms of heavy rust and wild animals. the heart beat of industrial noise resonating through weathered metal surfaces. psr003 is certainly writhing with wild tribal movement informed by the ferocity of feverish drum programming, waterlogged flanging and carefully degraded waveforms creating this fully engrossing and almost unclassifiable techno selection. it certainly puts an emphasis on the body aspect of ebm.

its clear from the opening seconds of tu fawnings debut full length, hearts on hold, that theres something very, very different about this portland, oregon band. the two note trumpet refrain of >multiply a house< that echoes like the distant sound of a battlefield, the ghostly chanting writhing around it as though in a trance, the funereal drums that boom in the background and the harmonies emerging as the chorus unfurls: these are not the sound of your everyday indie rock act.

this is the fourth ep the paris legends dan ghenacia and chris carrier have made together over the last year, and it’s just as fresh as their previous efforts with plenty of bounce, depth and funk. first up on the a-side is ‘the blue grass’, a deeply sensual cut with a potent low end. therein lies the groove, which is utterly captivating – made to get you writhing with glee, this one is aimed straight at the hips. alongside that sleazy bassline we have jazzy notes, swinging percussion and otherworldly bleeps and chirps. all of which makes it a great intro to this sterling ep. on the flip side, we have ‘blue stick’, another ridiculously groovy riddim with warped voices floating above a set of crispy beats and a raw undercurrent of emotion. minimal in composition, and the effect is deadly. lastly, to close out the three-tracker, it’s ‘kind of blues’ (can you spot the theme here?!). when it starts off, this one is a stomper with a moody expression. the beats are hefty, the bass morose and the analogue effects strangely cosmic. more twisted vocals are filtered in the background, giving this one its weird hook. the vocal reveals itself in the breakdown midway through before the track bounds on to its finale. dan ghenacia and chris carrier deliver three firebombs, perfect dance floor material with tight grooves and killer production. would you expect anything less?! go get em…

high summer. sun is shining and the bordello is open to newcomers, the latest being slovenia’s ichisan. a 12” that bulldozes barriers, metamundus seamlessly slips between electro disco, braindance acid and gilded funk. writhing 303 jerks are tempered by warm-hearted key changes for the title track, patterns ducking into playful frolics and lush deeps. and this desire to toy with convention is what characterises the ep. bitter chords are sugared, machine grooves with nods to the dancefloors of the 70s, spaceflights with undertones of chicago, ichisan brings all together in a 12” that is as unique as it is addictive.

next up on will & ink is a second release from yeleesa hall & malin, hot on the heels of their last collaborative effort, lucas, at the end of 2015. once again the mysterious hall and amsterdam/paris based oscillate music boss cook up some hard hitting house that is sonically inventive. opener first carol has hulking kicks and hits and a writhing, monstrous sounding synth line that brings real rawness and energy to the four-four beats all around it. some spooky little beat-less passage of eerie industrial sounds appear before second carol again slips into a well swung and purposeful groove. this one is rubbery and rolling, with dubbed out chords riding up and down and airy hats adding a sense of scale. another ep of contemporary club music of the highest order.

after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwreck in 2014, drvg cvltvre is now back with a full ep of his own on dutch label cos_mos. since 2009, vincent koreman a.k.a. drvg cvltvre has been churning out his own acid, no wave and experimental house on labels like viewlexx and permanent vacation and now kicks off the new year in style with three more inventive offerings. new earth army is a slow, heavyweight and coarse track with rattling chords, angry percussion and elastic drums that manages to be physical and tough yet groovy and playful at the same time. we have become the filth of the universe is a big, fat, heavy wedge of slow motion techno with monstrous drums and wild acid lines all spraying about wildly for the duration. it’s a warehouse sized track that will reduce the ‘floor to a writhing mess and finally possessed is a sci-fi riddled track with lots of spacey synths, filtered analogue lines and paranoid sirens all making for a turbulent brew of dark and otherworldly energy. once again here drvg cvltvre proves he has a raw sound all his own.

ron morelli returns to stare down the ‘floor with four pieces written during the stress-busting sessions for ‘spit’. the muggy, droning welt of ‘public consumption’ kicks off with the sound of new york techno shot from the hip, while ‘another hit’ vents a vintage era-regis style built on skull-chipping snares and effluent acid modulation. the album’s writhing batacuda banger, ‘crack microbes’ reappears here as an extra-ferric extended version, sustaining the hypnotic intensity for nine minutes of panic attack acid and febrile cowbells, while ‘’rushing again’ escorts us to a close with triplet techno shook down by railgun snares and a grotty synthline.
