trickreich und zartfühlend zugleich, klingt es wesentlich endorphin-geschwängerter als die bis jetzt veröffentlichten singles. das mag zunächst verwirrend sein, aber die Überraschung gelingt. die reise, die dark sky zurück gelegt haben, muss von extremem musikkonsum begleitet gewesen sein. das album evoziert bilder eines erwachsenwerdens durch sound. vor allem eine musikalische dekade hat dark sky beeinflusst, die 90er und all die vielen musikrichtungen, die damals wiederentdeckt worden sind finden sich auch auf imagin wieder. funk, bossa nova, eine ganze menge triphop, aber auch post-rock, ambient, balearic-house und 80ies pop alles geschüttelt und gerührt und in einem post-dubstep cocktailglas serviert. eiskalt selbstverständlich

der produzent willie mitchell brachte die talentierte rhythm group hervor-hi rhythm, welche aus den hodges bruedern und howard grimes bestand. im jahre 1976 nahmen sie die lp on the loose auf und waren als band bis in die 90er hinein zusammen erfolgreich unterwegs. das quartett gilt auch heute noch als eine der besten und bedeutendsten bands im bereich soul-musik. und neben ihnen waren weitere großartige künstler wie ann peebles, otis clay oder auch syl johnson auf dem brillanten label hi-records vertreten. der gesamte umfangreiche backkatalog des legendären us-soul-labels hi records wird nun via fat possum re-released. sämtliche alben werden mit der original-tracklist veröffentlicht. die vinyl-lp erscheint inklusive download-code.
