to the untrained ear a collaboration between mosaic boss steve o sullivan and minimal house maestro ricardo villalobos may not seem like the most obvious sound clash. however, dig a little deeper and you ll find that both these artists have a long history and shared love of stripped back aesthetics and dubbed out rhythms carving out respective sounds that have never strayed far from their roots. sullric is the result of a daylong session at the end of 2016 where the pair plugged in, switched on and set everything to cycle: recording several hours worth of material to tape with an edit of their favourite passage worked into two versions in post-production.

british producer reformed society is on a steadfast mission to dig deeper by going against the grain, standing up to the status quo and daring to do something different. a self proclaimed goal that is easily noticeable in his first release for “made of concrete”, wherein he reveals three original tracks and a remix by gathaspar, one of the label’s regulars. kicking things off with “high tension”, a high strung stripped back piece with an aerial feel, the artist builds up the entire mood of the ep from scratch. a clear-cut, steady groove whose versatility makes it relevant as an intro, outro or interlude. gathaspar’s rausch remix is a sub-bassy reinterpretation of the initial piece, filled with contorted whirs and whizzes that give the track a sub- aquatic feel. on “volgende halte”, the opening vocal sample shifts from a seemingly conventional soundbite to a recurringly haunting snippet that remains etched into the listener’s brain. rhythmical rolling pads galvanize the groove, making for an eerie yet relaxed overall vibe. movement inducing from the get go, final offering “orbiting jupiter” centers around wavering bass leads, while playing on a blend of spacious synths and timbered percussion patterns.

bottenvikans silverkyrka is a northern sweden congregation that preaches through their machine music: acid techno infused with the message of infinity in the tradition of the swedish revival movement. in their first release “det stora uppvaknanet” (the great awakening), bottenvikens silverkyrka distributes their faith and hope that more people will be saved and make their own acid revival meetings. there are tracks for the acid baptism, communion and for the dance revival.

aside from being the originator and creator of the osmose sound 7inch vinyl record stabiliser, dj osmose is a purveyor of the finest house and disco concoctions, a man who has clearly dedicated his life to both house culture and the vinyl format - we dig. this time hes up on the newly crowned morgan avenue edits, and first up is a collaboration with bydesign, a track entitled red light disco, and one that is a total discoid banger, backed by one hell of a baseline. hazardous disco sees the man go solo and deeper than before, serving up a beautiful, vocal-laden, string-heavy disco joint for the modern ear, followed by the smooth-as-silk groove of i dont wanna know. stunningly fab.

frank cunimondo trio still hits it with “feeling good” on the a, jazz, house & hip hop heads all dig it. etta james “in the basement” will always start the party, pure soul, the funky smell, and the sweaty groove.
