nice price deal !!! the songs on yachts debut album see mystery lights from the bouncy, burbling you cant take it with you screed the afterlife (which plays like a less spastic companion piece to the mae shis run to your grave) to the roller rink ready vocoder vocals of im in love with a ripper represent yacht at their most poppy. its a collection of stone jams that finds the band finally as hellbent on experimenting and expanding the boundaries of its sonic scope as it is on having fun. built on electronic foundations laser effects, skittering computerized beats, and spacey synth lines (or guitar riffs that have been tuned or distorted to sound like synths) these new songs are giddy with creative freedom while remaining tethered in service of their melodies. the vocal melodies are bright and buoyant, but delivered (by either band member, or in unison) in a chanted, oftentimes detached monotone that plays up the repetitive lyrics mantra like feel and adds a welcome undercurrent of slacker cool to their otherwise sugary optimism.

when the two colossi of the bearfunk label get together you can be sure that creative sparks will fire and the disco grooves will ooze. and so we present stevie koteys and max essas new project, the cunningly titled soiree. as a taster for the upcoming treats we are pleased to release a four track ep covering the musical bases that the london and tokyo based pair intend to cover. the theme from soiree announces arrival in a big way. disco grooves meets herbie hancock with lee ritenour tints. real drums from dave barbarossa, jazzer keys and some nifty fretwork from max. overgroomed slows things down to slo-mo speed and mixes japan/mick karn-esque fretless bass and layers of percussions and beats
lyrical wit is in abundance, magnified by russell maels soaring falsetto gymnastics. failure with the opposite sex is a recurring topic, from the adolescent fumblings of amateur hour to the resignation of falling in love with myself again. its easy to see why the teenage morrissey was a dedicated fan. the track that really grabbed the publics attention was this town aint big enough for both of us, a classic stomper with a gravity defying melody. 1974s kimono my house is the sound of sparks firing on all four cylinders, providing one of the most curious and comical albums of the 70s. freddie mercury wasnt the only operatic rocker on the block in the mid 70s. the genre was pretty much taken to its logical conclusion by ron and russell mael, the decidedly odd couple who formed the nucleus of sparks. dropping references to immanuel kant and yehudi menuhin, these boys werent your average dumb rock band. kimono my house was their third album, recorded after the brothers had relocated from la to london (where tolerance of tongue in cheek pomp pop was obviously much higher).
long awaited new material from the detroit master andres on moodymanns >other< label. in true mahogani music style they decided to release the second of his two eps before the first. there has been a new andres album rumoured for a while now so we are thinking this is the second half of it. theres eleven tracks in total, with a few skits and interludes bridging the gap between classic detroit house jams and gospel style vocal tracks that kdj himself would be proud of. this one was well worth the wait!!
what sharon van etten?s heart bleeds her songs soak in and offer up to those throats in need of slaking. this is what we expect from musicians who trade in the autobiographical. we hold forth empty vessels and expect them to be filled with the reflective elements of a songwriter?s soul, mirrors within which we search for some small recognizable part of the self. ?because i was in love? features sharon van etten on vocals, acoustic guitar and tambourine, and greg weeks on electric guitar, organ and wood blocks.
incl. rmxs by meat & daniel mehlhardt! big with gregor tresher, catz n dogz, onur Özer, mathias kaden, julietta, patrick zigon, matt star, laurent garnier
together through life is bob dylans upcoming 33rd studio album (around his 60th album if you count official live albums and compilations). dylan produced the record under the pseudonym of jack frost, which he used for his previous two studio albums, love and theft and modern times. dylan revealed that the new record was heavily influenced by the sound of chess records and sun records. in an interview on his website bobdylan.com, the 67 year old singer compares the sounds of together through life, to the 1950s sounds of blues singers willie dixon and howlin wolf. dylan has a tough record to follow after his 2006 release modern times won two grammys and became his first number one record in the u.s. since 1976.
brakes is comprised of members of british sea power, electric soft parade, restlesslist, pipettes and tenderfoot. the band have toured with belle and sebastian, the killers, buck 65, and editors, as well as headlining many tours of their own. touchdown was recorded at the legendary glasgow studio chem 19 by the delgados paul savage (mogwai, arab strap, malcolm middleton) and mastered by the similarly legendary alan douches at west west side, ny. two singles are being released to coincide with the album ? colin murray has fervently supported the first, hey hey, on his radio show, and the songs iseetigers produced video featured as a drowned in sound exclusive before its universal release.

this is the 1st ep of rheintime records, the new label of the cologne based techno club no. 1 called elektrokueche. the release comes along with 4 peaktime floor filling tracks of minicoolboyz, demir & seymen, chisee and dompe. on side a there are 2 straight techno tracks with dark synth elements. side b is keeping a massive bassline groove combined with deep and techy chords and moves between techhouse and minimal tech. nice white vinyl!
rave your head with this bangers... check your head bangs from the first to the very last second. this is really no laid back chill out sound. this is rave culture from the future of germany influenced technologist music art and the soulful touch of detroits music of today. very freaky

after his huge >pepper exchange vol. 1<, anton zap is back with more spicey house music. moscows finest offers 4 warehouse esque deep house groovers and proves that without a shadow of a doubt hes one who you need to keep close tabs on. on quintessentials 05, anton keeps his >pepper exchange< style: stripped back, & raw! its pure, back to its roots simple groove quality which works so well with anton zaps new 12inch. but like a lot of antons music, deep atmospherics play a big part and this is why his music has that standout from the rest feel. its not often that you come across a ep where all the tracks are playable, but even less often where all the tracks make you step back and appreciate them much more than you normally would. essential house music for those looking for the simple soul filled stripped back house feel
advanced underwater electronics by dj stingray. known for his collaborations with drexciya (as the official drexciyan dj), and also know for his works with carl craig (on retroactive and planet e as urban tribe) and his collabs with old time friends moodymann and more of the detroit house producers. this is some deep almost industrial electro techno from the motor city and stingray presents another double pack (after his release on richard james rephlex label recently) with some raw, no nonsens dark shit from a dark (and some say doomed) city!!

jona bechtolt makes his way over to dfa for three tracks, all of which find him tailoring his endearing electronic pop squiggles into a far more serious sounding james murphy-friendly setup, complete with robust live kit sounds, disco drum patterns and tough no-wave basslines. both ‘summer song’ and ‘i’m in love with a ripper’ sound like perfect dfa fodder, with their slouchy rhythms and slick organic styling
first part of the brand new album ! first in a series of 3 . the vinyl release of ian pooleys new album >in other words< . part one includes some of the highlights of his latest album
