nyc producer, one half of point break, and dusk notes co-founder, cory james, will drop his latest ep, the home treatment, via behzad et amarou records on december 2. the home treatment will be the second release on behzad et amarou records (a.k.a. bear), which was launched in early 2015 by french duo, and concrete residents, behzad & amarou. the four tracks on the home treatment present a dark, atmospheric sound, bookended by textural pads, haunting ambience, and galloping rhythms.

andre crom returns to off with a deep and moody piece of house music. based on a layer of solid drums and a warm bassline, the track evolves with a gliding synth hook and bell theme, topped by a haunting vocal featuring bramwell. berlins rising star jonas saalbach delivers a spacy interpretation, altering the original theme and introducing new synth layers. finally, london-based ashwort adds a toolish deep techno remix, only using fragments of the vocal to give more focus to the groove.

the first part reveals six tracks on two heavyweight discs. although most of the tracks fit the usual sit musical approach, the listener is greeted with a wide pallete of rhythms. assemble is an atmospheric dub infused with violins and orchestral echoes. permissive starts things up with a playful bass progression and continues with lush pads and cryptic voices. brooklyn’s deep moody synths and monster groove render it broken poetry at it’s best. for sure it will resemble those early danceable mornings. on a more joyful manner we are presented next with bootcamp s sturdy baseline and playful modulated vocals.
mandatory claims a whole side of the second disc and so does come around. while the first is almost experimental but danceable and warm due to the occasional driving percussions and 303 sounds the latter is the star of the show. come around is 15 minutes long and comes with a story too. a great collection of tracks, a great story that backs each one of them makes the first part of the sideways lp trilogy a treat to listen and dance to.

wrapping up a short summer break, speicher returns with a powerful double bill from rising duo hunter/game. its the italian producers second contribution to the series, after having amassed quite a few nods with sneaky club anthems hexagon and bermuda (kompakt extra 83). this was followed by their strong rework of wevals gimme some a much acclaimed highlight of our total 15 compilation (kompakt 340 cd 125). the new material sees them digging even deeper into the hardware circuits while cranking up the momentum a notch or two: opening banger adaptation doesnt feel the need to ease you into the experience, dropping you right in the middle of its frenzied staccato synth throb instead. meanwhile, the path opts for rich, saturated colors and epic melodies, slowly building its case until its ready to blow its lid. these are two extraordinary techno tunes that will command your attention and leave no floor unturned an essential release for both the label and the artists.

last summer, ultra knites records kicked off a series of knite grooves eps. ukr006 sees label owners sem marini and mike sharon make a reappearance for summer 2015, this time under their ultra knites pseudonym for the third instalment of the knite grooves series. as has come to be expected from the pair- two tracks on the a side which ooze class and deepness, laced with melodic keyboard solos, elements that were once a staple in the deep house genre but have since bceome scarce during recent years. flipping over to the b side, the pair welcome fresh talent from across the water in the form of a collaboration between us producer trevor vichas and netherlands based tommy largo. theres two mixes here of gonna hold on both of which capture the essence of real underground house music and maintain the ethos of ultra knites records.

james ross is a guitarist and composer living in brooklyn, n.y. originally from pittsburgh, pa., he has studied guitar at the university of pittsburgh and the mannes college of music in new york city. he has studied sitar with pandit krishna bhatt, and north indian classical music and composition with la monte young and marian zazeela. a composer in a variety of genres, james has written music for orchestral and chamber ensembles, as well as solo music for the guitar and the zhongruan (a type of chinese lute). he has also performed and recorded electronic and improvised music. recent performances as a composer and performer on the electric guitar, laptop and other instruments include sets at the bell house, at the small beast at the delancey with percussionist joseph benzola, a performance with kyle bobby dunn at issue project room, at pianos with richard lainhart, at glasslands gallery with michael vincent waller, at goodbye blue monday with david beardsley, providing live music for katherine liberovskaya and ursula scherrer’s optosonic tea series at diapason gallery in brooklyn, with video artist alex carpenter at the tank in manhattan, and at damrosch park at lincoln center as part of the guitar ensemble for rhys chatham’s “a crimson grail.” a recording of the -crimson grail- performance was released on nonesuch records on sept. 14, 2010. as a classical guitarist, james has performed as a soloist and ensemble player throughout the northeastern united states. he received a solo recitalist fellowship in 1992 from the pennsylvania council on the arts and won the 1993 mannes college of music concerto competition, resulting in a performance of joaquin rodrigo’s “fantasia para gentilhombre,” at symphony space in new york city.
