arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. in his quest for a unique sound, he constantly reinvented himself, creating projects with new aliases and concepts, scraping together studio time, and hustling. even today, moores music sounds ahead of its time.

thomas brinkmann is one of the great producers of techno music and modern dance music. he initially gained notoriety in the experimental electronic music and techno community for his full-length variations of material by wolfgang voigt under his mike ink moniker, and richie hawtin. the variations were made by playback of the original artist records on a turntable of brinkmann s design, which has two tone arms with separate outputs for left and right channels. the turntables were then pitched down from 33rpm to 27rpm and the results recorded and mixed. both voigt and hawtin were sufficiently impressed they released the results on their own labels. since then thomas brinkmann has produced some all-time classic dance tracks, many of which are collected here in what is a personal selection by thomas brinkmann himself. there are unreleased tracks, different versions, and tracks that have never been released on vinyl. a full colour 20-page book with track notes by thomas brinkmann and photos from his personal collection is included. limited edition box. highly recommended! ean4050486123461

first time band anthology - includes 9 unreleased tracks! this fall, the independent literary press all night menu will publish sam sweets hadley lee lightcap, a nonfiction novel that traces the backstories of the three members in acetone, a band that played in los angeles for nine years. though few heard them, their recordings are time capsules of who they were, how they lived, and where they came from. light in the attic has partnered with all night menu to present acetone 1992-2001, the first anthology of the trios music. the book and the album will be released at the same time.

commonly found lurking around l.i.e.s., technicolour and w.t. records, florian kupfer has plenty of credentials in the noisier end of the hardware house and techno scene, so it makes perfect sense to find him sidling up to valcron video in collaborative moder with torn hawk. the results are predictably excellent, from the gnarled emotional wrangles of -fake blood to the blown out ambience of hungry for candy. sweet tooth comes on like a dishevelled club workout, and then manipulation rounds the record off with a tongue in cheek spoken word and ambience piece that packs some serious music underneath the irreverent chit chat.

in 1973, emi records nigeria released the 45 rpm disc fuel for love b/w soundway, credited to a mysterious band called wrinkar experience. the record was a finely-crafted gem of pop-rock and funky soul as had never before been heard coming out of the countryÆs nascent rock scene, and it ended up being the biggest selling nigerian single up until that point. the success of wrinkar experience effectively demonstrated that was a market for homegrown pop and rock, and sent record labels scrambling to sign similar bands, kicking off the nigerian rock revolution that is still being celebrated and discovered by new generations today. but while wrinkar experience launched the movement, the group itself would be short-lived: after another hit single in 1973, the bands frontman danie ian split for a solo career. the remaining principal players in the group cameroonian musicians ginger forcha and edjoo jacques racine tried to keep the wrinkar name going before giving it up and rebranding themselves as rock town express. rock town expresss debut lp funky makossa was recorded in 1974 for arc records, the cutting-edge studio and label established in lagos by english drum legend ginger baker. the album showcased in long format the qualities that had only been hinted at on the wrinkar experience singles: bright, confident pop melodies, articulate lyrics, and darkly potent funk-rock. comb & razor sound is proud to present a new, fully-authorized reissue of funky makossa, featuring the seven tracks from the original release, plus i am a natural man and i dont want to know, from wrinkar experiences seldom-heard third and final single.

das mysteriöse projekt hype williams ist mit einem neuen album zurück auf big dada. in einem statement zur album ankündigung wurde angegeben dass die ursprünglichen mitglieder dean blunt & inga copeland nicht mehr teil der gruppe seien und ihre letzte gemeinsame veröffentlichung 2011 auf hippos in tanks erschien. die größte aufmerksamkeit bekam das ursprünglich 2005 gegründete projekt bisher für seine ep kelly price w8 gain vol ii, welche ebenfalls 2011 auf hyperdub erschien und große kreise in der welt der elektronischen musik zog.

sowohl der film als auch der soundtrack zu »guardians of the galaxy« sind absolut kult. und da 2017 endlich die fortsetzung des science-fiction-abenteuers von marvel in den kinos läuft, gibt es passend dazu die neue filmmusik: »guardians of the galaxy: awesome mix vol. 2«.

»astral weeks« ist das zweite soloalbum des nordirischen musikers van morrison, mit dem der ehemalige them-sänger nach der auflösung der band seine solokarriere weiter ausprägte.
aufgenommen wurde die acht songs umfassende platte innerhalb von nur zwei tagen im september und oktober 1968 in den century sound studios in new york. unterstützung erhielt van morrison dabei von dem gitarristen jay berliner, dem bassisten richard davis, dem perkussionisten warren smith und dem schlagzeuger connie kay. es ist das erste album, das der sänger beim label warner brothers produzierte.
»astral weeks« ist eine mischung aus folk, blues und jazz. es gehört nicht zu den erfolgreichsten van-morrison-alben, hat jedoch bis heute bei seinen fans kultstatus erlangt.
