techno in the classic british tradition of surgeon, christian vogel, regis to name a few. simply put, beautiful, other-worldly, hypnotic, brilliantly functional. sam watson is virtually unknown outside the freerotation festival cognoscenti, where he is a resident, and his dj sets are legendary. this ep for third ear marks the start of a concerted effort by sam to put his name out there by releasing his tracks. chec

mathias schaffhauser, founder of german label ware records debuts on third ear with a 3 track 12inch. this is big-sky, expansive, driving techno even the beatless version of grad minus 12. mathias schaffhaeusers ware records had a very recognisable sound. it was one of the defining labels of the cologne sound, most associated with kompakt these days. but in the 90s and early 00s, ware was as significant a label, especially for djs. this release is very much a good example of that sound, still sounding fresh and bristling with good energy.

limited to 200 copies, this release is the first of the 5 12- from the thomas brinkmann retrospektiv 5xlp box set. the 5 individual 12- will be released through 2018. thomas brinkmann is one of the great producers of techno music and modern dance music.

new talent from detroit. hazmat s infinite silence ep is as deep as they come, and is the first release in a new series of detroit artist releases from third ear. following on from third ear s landmark detroit beatdown series, the new detroit deep series of releases is just that. hazmat has played keyboards for artists such as bilal and mary j blige, as well as detroit legends kenny dixon jr, amp fiddler and delano smith. along the way, he started to make his own beats and his own tracks and is now ready to take things to the next level. he also plays keys with motown legacy artists touring bands, such as the the four tops, the detroit spinners, the gap band. it s not all about the beats and the synths, though. hazmat s work using the talkbox is right up there.

isolation diaries is argentinian producer alejandro mosso s 2nd album. it comes more than ten years after his debut, hiperborea in 2005. he says i think the album is warm, emotive and nostalgic but not dark nor sad. it is percussive and melodic but not laid back and balearic. it is tribal and organic but still very precise, as only electronic music can be. the grooves are strong and infectious and the sounds are rich and satisfying, resulting in music that sounds very organic and unpremeditated. the album is accompanied by a burnt freidman remix of the track isolation diaries, and a ricardo villalobos remix of deardrum.

alex burkat is back on third ear following his arresting debut, the 285 kent ep (3eep-2014_05). his signature sound is on full display here, again. the new ep is harder and faster than the 285 kent ep, more up , for a different time of night. 3am eternal music. many artists strive to sound like someone else. some strive for individuality and some of those succeed. alex burkat is one of those who has succeeded. his music is epic, wide-screen and lush, deep and with plenty of weight.

techno from a new argentine producer. 4 cuts of grooves and moods for the heads and deeper dance floors. the 4th cut releasing ourselves shows luis luchetti to be willing to push the boundaries of a dance track in ways few producers could or would. when your smile reaches me is emotive techno of the highest order.

debut release for ra journalist dan petry using the moniker ged. the dry river ep is an accomplished first outing that fans of drexciya, dave clarke and objekt should investigate. ged s sound is rooted in detroit electro, early rave, 90s warp sensibilities and the gorgeous electronica palettes of manchester s skam label, most notable on early boards of canada and bola s work. that is to say kicking drums, dark brooding undercurrents and delicious soundscapes. definitely worth checking.

bubble clocks opens with the sublime talking proud beautifully built around a vocal sample from one of jazz s undisputed greats, nina simone. the title track bubble clocks is over 9 minutes of dream psychedelic bass music. turn on, tune in, bliss out. punchlines is a rave/bass crossover peak time bomb, and output, the closing track is 10 minutes of totally individual vision, taking a convoluted idea and teasing it out in all its permutations. a major talent in the making who has been showing promise, delivers on this ep.

scott marshall is a london-based dj and producer. his debut 4-track ep, titled scott marshall demonstrates a distinctive uk booty sound. early supporters include dj deeon, john heckle, mark forshaw and jamie russell. born and raised in south london through the 80s, scott started buying records when he was 16 amassing a large collection of house, techno, disco and funk.

originally from california and now residing in montreal, stefny winter arrives on third ear with a fully-formed sound. this music is dark and trippy with plenty of weight. the tracks are long, on average 8 minutes and unfold relentlessly, never letting go. over an hour of beautifully imagined and carefully realised techno, finishing with the stunning rise.

b.riddim is luis sequeira, a portuguese living in london. magic my ear is his second ep for third ear, following the (in) theory ep in 2012. formerly a driving force in the influential portuguese rap group g-ward under the name bellatur, luis followed his love of jamaican dub using electronics to arrive at a sound which is identifiable through the sum of its parts but which is quite unique.

from the often indistinct morass of modern hip-hop comes something so singular as to merit special attention wrote the guardian about: brownstudys tell me more about bubble album, released on third ear in 2005. a most soulfully cerebral volume of no-pose wisdom. mojo wrote, musically: brownstudy evokes the clammy, distressed soul of sly stones riot, and the lush visions of 4 hero. life well lived is brownstudys new album. 11 songs (9 lyrical flows and 2 intrumentals).

filippo blasi foglietti is another third ear find well worth checking. the john nixon memorial ep is trippy, dark, deep and grooving. there are four different grooves here, all of which can disconcert and disorientate. perfect for tripping up and tripping out the dance floor.

out of the ether comes something special. how did dopeus get so good while remaining almost unnoticed? sometimes it goes like that. with only a handful of tracks released, including i left my soul on planet dopeus on nite grooves darkness part 2, this is ny resident naotake gunjis first major release yet he comes on like hes been chiseling away at his sound for years. out of nowhere comes the getaway ep. its house music but its much more than that. check!

wbeezas first release since 2012s peckham fly/billy green is ded single. if you believe is a simple stone cold knockout hook over deliciously arranged elements. wacky racers is a peak time banger - maybe his hardest track so far. wise root is a slow burner, only revealing its full force after nearly 5 minutes of keeping the dance floor locked in. mo bella is a rolling, swinging live jam of irrepressible groove. four unmistakable wbeeza joints.

sarrass returns with a new single taken from his forthcoming album, dirty gear. the a side is the spacefunk remix, by sarras, of a new day, a slo-mo fantasy of the original. this is such a feel-good track. the b side is the full length original mix only available on this single. an edit of the original version will appear on the album. classic sarras trademarks dirty and shiny all at the same time, brilliant tension building, never ends up where you think it will.

el prevost returns for his second ep on third ear, following up the money honey ep from a year ago. four more twisted cuts from out of darkest south london. heavy.

for more than a year, third ear and benjamin have been selecting tracks for this ep and for an album to follow later in the year. the wait was largely due to the track no kicks, which initially used a chuck d acapella, titled no. when third ear couldn?t get clearance for the acapella, we suggested to benjamin that we try and think of another poet/rapper who could produce an original lyric inspired by chuck d?s flow. after some thought we suggested diamondancer, who was inspired to write the lyric she performs here. stay hungry stay foolish and acidic sun are delicious and dreamy, with a fat pulsing groove. hello ammmerika is more urgent, pushing the groove constantly.

ozel ab follows up releases on lobster theremin and workshop with this highly accomplished genre-busting ep for third ear. ozel ab approached third ear with a selection of tracks for us to consider, which he thought would suit the label. he was not wrong.

ricardo villalobos remixes deardrum from alejandro mosso s album isolation diaries recently released on third ear. villalobos worked up a 40 minute jam from which this is a 9 minute section which moves from a gentle pattering of sounds into a full-on villalobos groove, taught and slinky at the same time, i.e. irresistibly funky. the jam then subsides into chattering noises before the groove begins again. burnt friedman s remix of isolation diaries is a slow burning super funky jam with classic burnt friedman dub elements laced through the track together with the melody twisted and phased. the closing track from the album, mounivers, completes this fine release.

thomas brinkmann is one of the great producers of techno music and modern dance music. he initially gained notoriety in the experimental electronic music and techno community for his full-length variations of material by wolfgang voigt under his mike ink moniker, and richie hawtin. the variations were made by playback of the original artist records on a turntable of brinkmann s design, which has two tone arms with separate outputs for left and right channels. the turntables were then pitched down from 33rpm to 27rpm and the results recorded and mixed. both voigt and hawtin were sufficiently impressed they released the results on their own labels. since then thomas brinkmann has produced some all-time classic dance tracks, many of which are collected here in what is a personal selection by thomas brinkmann himself. there are unreleased tracks, different versions, and tracks that have never been released on vinyl. a full colour 20-page book with track notes by thomas brinkmann and photos from his personal collection is included. limited edition box. highly recommended! ean4050486123461

without artwork cover - only standard cover (see picture)...ltd warehouse / backstock - the midnite ep is the follow up ep to delano smith s sunrise ep on third ear recordings, released at the end of 2008. the sunrise ep was one of the underground house records of 2009, and the midnite ep is set to be one of the underground house records of 2010. both delano and us think the midnite ep is better than sunrise. after the sunrise ep, we decided to do it again and maintain the theme and name the next ep after a moment, a feeling within the dance floor experience. we decided on midnite. once again we have selected four tracks from a selection that delano sent us. you can play these tracks at any time of the day or night, and we encourage you to experiment in this way. however, dropping any of these tracks at midnite will ensure that you, your dance floor and all the people in the room will be set up for the journey. :-) a1: a special kind is constructed in the classic style of filtered samples from another record over a fat (really fat as this is a record made in detroit) kick drum. the samples are from ashford and simpson s stay free from 1979 on warner bros records. it is a sign of a good dance music producer that s/he can take an already great track and turn it into a dance floor bomb. delano has done this with a special kind. 117bpm. a2: dee s gruv is a very deep, very atmospheric groove. a crisp snare, a growling bass, a kick drum of varying intensity though the track framing the vibe, and a subtly modulating chord that goes on forever. hi-hats and ride cymbal move in and out of the track as it ebbs and flows. this kind of deep, grooving suspension of time is becoming a delano smith speciality. 122bpm. b1: the exploration is delano working through the same ideas as he explores in dee s gruv. hitting harder and driving faster than dees gruv, the exploration is a continuation of delano s search for the ultimate deep house groove. all students of electronic dance music should check this.

dj t-1000 drops 4 classic hard-edged cuts of pure detroit techno on third ear. born and raised in detroit and based in berlin dj t-1000 is alan oldham, owner of detroit labels generator and pure sonik, and a gifted techno dj. also an accomplished graphic illustrator, known globally for his iconic artwork for djax-up-beats, +8 records, transmat, astralwerks and many other electronic music labels, including third ear. alan did the artwork for the defenders of the deep house world ep curated by mike huckaby, and he has done the artwork for his third ear ep also.

brendon moeller returns to third ear after some years, following up his lauded jazz junk safari trilogy of eps with 4 peak time bombs. all 4 tracks blow up the dance floor. brendon moeller known for his sound design, has taken his sonics to extremes on all four tracks, pushing, twisting and teasing frequencies to the limit. the bass on all tracks is phenomenal. it s just as well that a master engineer like pole has mastered these tracks, maxing out the sound yet protecting the sound systems that these bombs will be played on. super fun.

truncated soul samples are carried by no-nonsense rhythms before a switch up snaps in to catch the dance floor off guard. added shuffles and trumpet snips build a buoyant and jazzy vibe that brings another coup for third ear and another truly fine addition to wbeeza s catalogue to a close.

in 2011, julia thompson (dj black b1tch) gave me a tdk sa90 tape of a spontaneous live jam by insync recorded in her flat in forest hill, south london in march 1991. she had found it in a drawer when clearing out stuff. she gave it to me to listen to simply thinking i might be interested in hearing it. of course i was, particularly because the date on the tape immediately told me that the session was recorded more than a year before the release of insyncs debut, the seminal storm on irdial discs.

thomas brinkmann releases the first of a series of releases on third ear. the quality and originality of these tracks reminds us just how good a producer thomas brinkmann is. techno it is, but nobody sounds like this. this, the first release is the guy martin ep, inspired by the british motorcycle racer and raconteur, guy martin. brinkmann, is himself a keen motorcycle rider and racer.

el prevost drops his third, and possibly his strongest set for third ear. d.ham freestyles brilliantly on allez ally, following previous collabs on third ear with el prevost on my soul responding and putting out fires. standing on my ground features lydia, whose warm tones remind of cassandra wilson or lalah hathaway. steps of a woman & sunday tingz are el prevost rinsing it on his own.

k hand returns on third ear with 4 killer cuts. by selecting k hands starz for his fabric 66 mix, ben klock is the latest in a long line of djs who always have k hand records in their boxes. vibe, tone and groove is why. this release is no different.

benjamin brunns first full-length since songs from the beehive with move d, leaving aside his recent colour tracks which was a history of edm.

man make music’s julian neumann drops his debut for third ear and what a debut it is. four unique cuts of glinting, glistening techno, dark and bright and beautifully balanced. the groove in every track kicks and steps. this ep might be julian neumann’s first for third ear but it’s unlikley to be the last.

here it is, the follow up to pirahnheads nrtvnrg ep. the ngtvnrg ep (3eep-109) brilliantly channelled pent-up negitive energy into killer dance tracks, so the sxulnrg ep brilliantly channels sexual energy into killer grooves and words. over two pirahnahead grooves, first goddesstephanie and then mona bode deliver meditations on sex, music and dancing.

b. riddim is luis manuel fidalgo fernandes sequeira, a 24 yr old portuguese living in london. the sounds on this ep encompass dubstep, dub reggae, grime, rave and electronica. b.riddim shows a deft touch on all cuts. his appreciation of and understanding of dub and its modern idioms sounds totally convincing over the whole ep.

back 2 back is built around a spontaneous live jam by dj pippi, tucillo and kiko navarro in dj pippis studio on ibiza. in a few hours they had finished the track. the ep opens with tucillo and willi graffs dub, a muscular, driving, stripped down rework of the original for a popping dance floor. kokis back dub is also a floor tool that has been well tested this summer by kiko navarro with great results. the ep finishes with a very cool afriki soul remix by bhoddi satva.

wbeeza slowly becomes one of the new house producers from the uk that establishes himself as on of the guys that always delivers hotness. warm lush tracks produced with a golden touch! 4 tracks can be found on this ep all drenched in a warm soulful bath and powerful enough to get any house floor going. essential house release! nuff said!

ok we can do a long text here... but lets not do that.... fantastic track by recast (aka fluxion)! a blissed-out track that is lush and jazzy! the experience of years of precision crafting dubby tech soundscapes is brought to these tracks, which are grooving house vibes executed in the melodic but quirky manner of isolee or luomo. lorca music is on remix duty here and did a great job with a clattering, skittering groove that is somewhere between 2-step and brokenbeat, the result is heavy and provides a nice alternative to the two recast versions. this is pure techno as we like it... not the banging big room techno, but techno we know from pioneers such as derrick may, carl craig, john beltran, stefan robber and the likes. no shit... this is just one of the most beautiful records we ve heard in a while.

crowdpleaser and st. plomb on third ear... what a nice surprise! four cuts of twisted, skewed, earthy house music veering to techno. served up with aplomb. great vibe and quality production on all cuts, just like we are used to get from third ear!
