solarism is the result of a common fascination for landscapes and a passion for contemplation. after two decades of an unbreakable friendship, we have finally imagined a way to express what contemplation has offered us and how it connects us to the world, describing those experiences through musical compositions, dj performances and welcoming other artists to release their art. here is how markus described his mind’s landscape composing these pieces of music, and it talks more than any description: have you ever thought that you are two people? do you have memories that are so detached from who you are now that you sometimes believe they are not your own? like something you have read or seen in a movie? you wonder who that was, your very own tyler durden? and here he is with a gift from another time when i was another person, living so fast and unconscious that i eventually almost lost the only thing we really have – my life.

* -while exploring new production techniques using old and unlikely hardware, the results were so unusual that i really had the sense that these pieces of equipment didn t actually create these sounds, rather they were in fact some kind of elaborate reception device that allowed me to tune into transmissions from distant galaxies. the music i could hear was actually the received transmissions of pop hits from those distant galaxies that were being played on their radio stations. i quickly recorded all that i could before losing the transmission.
* i consulted with dr andrew read, the astrophysicist with whom i recorded guitar treatments in 1999. he has worked on the discovery of the most distant galaxies and astronomical objects in the universe. together we came up with a possible list of where these musical transmissions may have come from.

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, ‘childhood’ is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. ‘when i read my book’ is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, ‘in august’ is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

like any good techno producer, moscow electronic producer harry light envelops his stage image by a veil of mystery, preferring to communicate with his audience exclusively through the music. its more than enough in his case. harry lights music is artsy and ascetic. theres nothing superfluous and it sounds extremely good, the louder the better revealing its great potential. regarding harrys stylistic range, it extends from well recognized german techno and minimalistic deep house to dub and deep techno. it also can be easily read by the label names where harrys music being released. theres anton kubikovs iconic label pro-tez, highway records sub-label whats in the box and trendy young imprint electronica. important addition to this list will be a release on kiev vinyl label artreform. on this new release titled resistance harry light has managed to show all the best sides of his eclectic sound.

with their cinematic music and john carpenters cover albums, we wondered when a real soundtrack by zombie zombie is going to be out? well, here it is now , the two zombies cosmic neman and etienne jaumet finally sign their first film music for the first feature film from director , narimane mari, loubia hamra (bloody beans), to be released in spring 2014. and we found them there, where we do not expect, because it s not a horror movie, but a free movie, a journey of a group of children from a district of algiers during the war of algeria, who becomes aware of life and death.director narimane mari talks about her experience with zombie zombie and creation of the soundtrack for her movie:-i really wanted the music to be as blood flow of images and that is what it is. sharp, dull, full of strange noises, inner or surging, harmonious or disturbed by noise disorder, which allows to read beyond the visual narrative. we are in the bowels of childhood and it shakes us up when we let our-selves be takeover by the living: the profusion. i didn’t want to make a movie where psychology and reason rule and dominate until our senses are weakened, but a movie that we experience with the body and it is them who made it possible, this total immersion.

the music of portable is truly unique. habitually perlons in-house singer and also the man that is bodycode, alan abrahams is capable of evoking the spirits of traditional deep house songs - yes, you read right: songs - without getting lost in nostalgia, manufacturing boring carbon copies or a longing for a past that never was. his first visit to ramonas little outlet is all that: haunting, melancholic yet optimistic, as deep as it is driving and most of all mesmerising. >a process< features all his great sound signature moves, comes with an acappella for brave djs and a serious flutramental on top of it all for the faint at heart. creation might be a painful process, but surely a rewarding one for portable. ramona is in love.

nice price deal !!! sinistarrs take on the sounds of his native detroit has landed him releases on goldies seminal metalheadz imprint and won the hearts of discerning drum & bass heads and general beat-lovers alike, combining the sonic qualities and raw aesthetics of detroit techno and electro with jungles schizo rhythms.
hit and hope present sinistarrs first non-dnb excursion in the form of the >cetra ep<. despite jumping tempos and styles, all 3 originals manage to remain coherent with sinistarrs catalog. the emotive synth chords, beefed up roland trs and human production ethic of 90s detroit are squeezed into the format of various current underground sounds in something altogether very unique.
at 135bpm, the title track cetra is drawn out progressive structure nods more to a classic rephlex cut than the majority of current club, or bass music with despite sharing a tempo and similar rhythms.

foolish felix dickinsons superb cynic label with another hot one! cynics latest release features another killer track from l.h.a.s. inc. (jamie read and felix dickinson). analogue synths and vintage drum machines rock along with an infectious old school style reminiscent of the early sounds coming from chicago and new york in the late 80s early 90s. think clubhouse meets nu groove. on the b side phoreski (felixs fellow resident at londons bad passion) delivers a remix that takes the track to another level, darker haunting synths and a robo vocal asking: do you like the way you feel, will you dance with me?

on le rire ep jared wilson (7777 - skudge / detroit) leads the way with a pest chicago-house inspired rework, devilishly and deliciously analog without whittling down to a mere old-school homage, a sort of us-acid-dubstep version of addison groove, with a taste of slacker jak-beat for the nirvana generation! a melodic decomposer, scottish dam mantle (warp - ghostly international / glasgow) deceitfully feigns to mellow with what could at first glance seem like an edit. however deep excavations into the intense choir of >voyage vers l harmonie< leads to a surreal confrontation between a slum village like beat and a post-industrial version of melody nelson. thundery atmospheres, slippery slopes… the best way to pay tribute to luc marianni. famous for his duo as well as his label syncom data, nukubus (bunker / rotterdam) is nonetheless an inspired soloist, as this breathtaking remix once again proves. the 11 minutes long krautrock tunnel leaves many envious of its authenticity and sheer technical virtuosity. this swirling reinterpretation of mariannis work manages to leave the original behind and come into its own. its out of respect for the original work that nukubus requested to be credited only as a remixer. if youve bothered to read the few lines above, please remember it is both easier and wiser to form your own opinion with the vinyl in your own two hands. please note that the distribution of these eps will be accompanied by some very limited original editions of luc mariannis vinyls
