automat and max loderbauer open proceedings on the new selekt label quite masterfully with an auspicious 4 track ep - verstärker / hall / kompressor / echo. how did this come about? automat, busy recording their second album, came across max loderbauer in the neighbouring studio. they got along swimmingly and started working together straight away. everything played live, no overdubs as automats bass player georg zeitblom confirms - first take, no shake. the studio was stripped down to basics. no computers though: a tape machine, guitar amplifier, analogue eqs, rehearsal space: re-rewind, the crowd say bo selekter!

i didnt mind what she called me, what anybody called me. but this was the room i had to live in. it was all i had in the way of a home. in it was everything that was mine, that had any association for me, any past, anything that took the place of a family. not much: a few books, pictures, radio, old letters, stuff like that. nothing. such as they were, they had all my memories and no one could disturb this private peace.

this ep was made during a period where my whole outlook on everything was transforming. the voidloss project started as an investigation, i was conducting a lot of research and study on the mind, the occult, on different thought modes, and the voidloss project represented this. the idea was about a leap in to the void. a leap of abandonment into the dark, with total acceptance, total commitment.

milton wrights perfect deep soul classic *keep it up* has always been a top shelf record, everything about it is almost flawless! whether it is miltons silky vocal delivery, the incessant guitar driven back beat or the total space funk vibe of his omnipresent arp-2600 synthesizer this record has it all. originally released on tk discos more soul and funk orientated alston label which was home to many legendary artists and records, this 1975 sunshine classic never fails to make people move. a classic rare groove indeed. *the silence that you keep* takes up side-b, a jazzy, flute driven love song that again features milton s perfect voice and some fantastic arrangement. a real gem of a record, with the original 45 changing hands for over £100 a time in used condition. this is the first time *keep it up* has been re-issued in its original 45 rpm format with the original alston label artwork. it has been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with the permission of tk disco / alston records, miami florida, usa.

this february nightdrivers deliver three first-rate cuts on holic trax for the quando party dove vai ? ep. following on from burnski s the hours ep which saw love from names like mr g, catz n dogz, dam swindle and eats everything, holic trax returns this february with nightdrivers quando party dove vai ? . since delivering their debut release on bosconi records back in 2013 the berlin-based duo nightdrivers have been going from strength to strength stacking up further releases on claap, their own nightdrivers label and now holic trax. to get things underway the light pads of resta pure dove sei give the opening track a floaty quality while the weighty percussion and subtle rhythms build proceedings into a steady and infectious groove. nightdrivers appear to go up a gear as the ep progresses with the rippling drums and dynamic arrangements of la ronde suite (but not for me) while fast cars maintains the lively vibe of its predecessor and frenetically bubbles along over busy modulations, wacky intonations and infectious licks to dish up a suitably punchy close to this bouncy ep.

since its conception three years ago, the hamburg based label hafendisko has been patiently building its reputation with a diverse and varied artist roster. alongside releases from emerging talent such as deo & z-man and brynjolfor, it forms parent label hfn musics outlet for club oriented music whether with full releases or remixes for artists such as kasper bjørke and faded ranger and just recently welcomed renowned remixers such as michael mayer, charles webster and luke solomon, to name a few.

musicalitys second release is a remake of the gil scott heron b-side *the klan*, featuring allan barnes formerly of the blackbyrds, and craig huckaby. the a-side has a wind and keys driven retro-funkiness, aided by latin percussion. kemeticjusts remix on the b glues everything together into a slightly faster house-tempo, increasing the propulsion, and likely causing lively dancing to break out. it was mixed by pirahnahead at united sound systems, and mastered by the legendary herb powers. musicality is the brainchild of producer/dj seth dedikate carter.

mystery production unit dj bmx continue their thrilling, no-nonsense adventures in the underground with the conquest of gravity ep for mil. techno-fused roller -warrior within- gets matters underway as thumping bass and ticking hi hats form the fore of the track, marching along over off-kilter bleeps and succinct glitches. the rough n ready aesthetic of the track sets the tone excellently for the ep, leading coherently into -wonders of time- where slight changes and improvisations keep your attention, with dubbed out key jabs that are matched melodically against atmospheric synth pads whirling in and out over crisp percussion clicks. -spinning across the sky- maintains the inspiration for myriad sources, cosmic, dreamy chimes are sprinkled over a tentatively used piano sequence, distorted key kicks and muddied percussion. its the only moment on the ep to include a vocal, and its used beautifully as it floats around the tracks central structure, lending it a spacious and depth-charged feel. -radim world- finishes everything off with a touch of pepe bradock style elegance - the multi-layered arrangements are fluid and dynamic, resulting in well-executed deep house.
