fist of facts began life in a basement studio on ludlow street, downtown manhattan, in the mid-80s. the bastard child of liquid liquids salvatore prinicipato & ken man caldeira (part of the liquid liquid extended family and original liquid idiot member) the band lasted nearly a decade during which they created a uniquely downtown new york sound. these tracks sat in storage on cassette tape for 25 years are a part of music history. none of them have ever been heard by the public and it will be released as a hand numbered, 4 colour sleeve limited to 500 12 inches.

on their introductory minus ep, click box offers a refreshing return to a bygone era of classic instrumentals, full of experimentation and passion generated by that ongoing love affair between man and machine. berlin shades starts out in a jittery minimal fashion but soon dives much deeper as the tough electro bassline expands and contracts dragging the dancer to and fro. the cascading hook and in-your-face sci-fi synth motif add a sense of tongue-in-cheek drama to a dynamic arrangement that incorporates steep inclines, sharp drops and snaking pathways. as the short staccato bass riff gains momentum and the hook comes round for the second time you just know somethings lying in wait and the boys certainly dont disappoint. lost road is anything but a blind alley, kicking off with some low-slung interplay between a two-note bassline and a whiplash snare that dishes out a serious spanking. hi-hats fizz across the audio spectrum, cleverly pitching up and down before a drunken bass sequence ushers in the main section with its sliding, twisted synth distortions primed for surprise and immediate disorientation. once all the elements are in play, the fun really starts with so many objects of interest competing for attention. the arrangement is pulled and pushed to great effect extracting maximum effect from this tough little unit. more electro flavour to the fore as the loose, broken beat intro and robot sounds of some toys make for some slick moves on the dancefloor. the retro synth riffs and dark spiralling pads conjure up images of some early 80s lab full of computer kids in white coats twiddling knobs on huge mainframe monoliths. the bouncing bass and analogue belches make this a must for all retro-tastic electro-boogie fans. the theme continues over into voxer as rising filtered bass tones playout over another trademark click box drum pattern, this time doused in heavy reverb and delay. an array of analogue bleeps, screams and laser beams keep the motor ticking over.

played by efdemin, ellen allien, karotte , lawrence, luciano, len faki, monika kruse, raresh, shinedoe... hailing from the southeast asian jungle, globalization, diaspora, and the unchecked native baboon explosion have all seriously endangered patuá, so we are afraid that poor patuá has very few brothers and sisters left in this world. lucky for you, as the vakant freak out bus has transversed the planet so many times now, we have indeed found (gasp) patuá and present patuá here for your delight and revelry. all it took to lure patuá onto the bus was some animal crackers and a 1989 game boy. truly momentous, yes we feel like noah. once onboard we immediately put patuá to work and this double a-side is the result. apparently house is big everywhere. smooth and warm, a-side macaista reaches out to the remaining patuá of this world and says, i am here, do not fret. if patuá reaches out with macaista, aa-side chapado is the reach around. much like his newfound masters, patuá is quite cheeky. thick and spacey chapado is the patuá mating call to all the remaining tribe members earthbound and beyond!

miss dica is barbara tampiÚr, an austrian producer and dj, now resident in berlin. this is her first ep as miss dica, although she previously released an ep as synth model (with vito caliente). all tracks are co-written and co-produced by the berlin dj/producer, ronald christoph. on her myspace page, miss dica describes her music as electro/techno/thrash , which neatly describes what this ep is. the tracks are well crafted and musically adventurous, and it s these elements that caught the ears of third ear. the tracks have a feel and atmosphere that evokes raving dance floors. these tracks are for people who like to let go and party, and have their neurons sonically tweaked. this record does both.

second installment by berlin based mri who successfully cultivated since 2002 some serious dance terrains. this release carries two outstanding and rare remixes as well as one original track. by taking techno deep into the mine shafts of dub, chain reactions / basic channel artist fluxion created an eerie, full-circle remix of the latter. you can hear that a man is at work who knows his gear well and is good in what he is doing. the production is brilliant, the selection of sounds superb, set-ups are constructed with caution, superimpositions are finely layered, propagations and ripenings are get going in a well-considered manner. dreadnaught bassline, steady hi-hats and lo-fi clips – a must for basic channel fans ! on the flip, young talented producer u.e.s. delivers the meanest blend of modern techno style and reduced shaped subs that just creams it on every system. and as well as both guys together does mri with original track rough. the „el castillo“ ep separates the styles over two sides and with „rough“ functioning as a wicked minimal techno track with shifted groove hinging on a grinding bassline - drives the track into abyssal techno territory. fans of basic channel and modern electronic music enthusiasts will be all over this beauty.

one of rough trades island 50th anniversary selection - 50 crucial titles, specially selected by us to highlight the unique contribution this seminal label has made to british music since 1959. the results of nick drakes solo sessions were as harrowing and stark as anything by robert johnson or charley patton. enclosed in an inner world of psychological distress, drake recorded pink moons dispatches from a private hell that was simultaneously terrifying and beautiful. both the lyrics and the melodic motifs are pared to the bone here, their simplicity making them all the more immediately striking. the most nakedly emotional and disturbing moment is probably parasite, a visceral but mysterious account of a disconsolate soul roaming through the world in search of succor, with drake taking the starring role, ultimately offering, take a look, you may see me in the dirt. this was the end of the road for nick drake in more ways than one, but just the beginning for the scores of songwriters subsequently inspired by his bleak but beautiful visions.

its already well-known that cocoon recordings is a sucker for tracks that stand out of the usual field of - lets be honest - often uniformly reduced tech-house, and the past nine years of the labels history have proven this sustainably. and the rhein-neckar area based team flatner/lopazz are again two hot candidates to leave their very special mark on the summer of 2009. after all, circlemusic manager alex flatner is rocking the floors as a dj and producer for already 10 years now, having been releasing for labels such as harthouse or black nation, whereas the heidelberg-born stefan eichinger aka lopazz has made himself a name with releases on imprints from the likes of output, international deejay gigolo and mainly get physical. together they celebrate a very funky understanding for percussive techno, which is setting highly meaningful moments for the primetime, particularly by means of lascivious vocals. i wanna take you all night long, for sure! and you definitely cant find a better expression for the perfect pounding symbiosis between bass-focused club stompers and economically dosed pop elements than its time to make up your mind.

vertex is an exploration in two parts. the a sideÆs vertex and the locus of points explore the trackier side of tejadaÆs work meant mostly for vinyl play. both tracks make good use of strong wavetable chorded sounds, which are modulated throughout. the rhythms of the chords make up the identity of the track with elements coming in and out. vertex showcases a more layered approach to take the track from a percussive to a smooth feel. the locus of points follows more of a straight up techno approach sounding simple and effective. the b-side explores the more melodic and arrangement based side of tejadaÆs work. liquid mirror is a track rich in layers. 3 modular synth layers provide the initial modulating melodic ground work which is then complimented by lush tejada keyboard work bringing the song to itÆs apex and then reducing it back to itÆs start all while backed by tejadaÆs powerful drum work. p.l.l. (which stands for phase locked loop, a process explored here) continues this theme in a less obvious way. modular synths and drum tracks start things off while midway a modulating melodic phrase is introduced playing back a bit differently every time. four songs in all showcasing tejadaÆs simple and complex approach to dance music.

show-b is making a triumphal procession through the heaven of arrangements and the musically modernistic housemusic. complex, but fleet footed, his rhythmic structures produce a soulful symbiosis with the music of long gone times of dance music. traditional elements, such as flutes or rhodes unite with sub basses, crisp kick drums and detriotesque bass lines, culminating in show-bs own definition of housemusic. shallowness, ordinarity and a simple sensation of contentment are not part of this definition.

originally released on analytic trail at the end of 2007, c est la vie (and b-side oasi) marked the debut for joseph capriati. since this time capriati has gone on to become one of the hottest names in techno with releases on the scenes labels including drumcode, clr and sci and tec.
to celebrate the success of this favourite son of naples, analytic trail are releasing a staggering set of remixes of two tracks from joseph s debut release on the label from the best names in techno: umek, ramon tapia, xpansul, ortin cam, hauswerks, gaz james and abnormal boyz
the mighty umek gets first crack at c est la vie, turning in a typically straight to the point remake, dropping the distinctive percussive hook over a jackhammer groove. ortin cam (drumcode) adopts a more minimal approach with firing snare rolls and a distorted, buzzing cutup loop of the original hook. rounding out the first part of this package is xpansul (ovum, soma) with a dramatic, stringladen take that bounces along on a tough but funky bassline.

second release on klimaks comes from italian tech house favourites nice7.
