its been a while but now, finally, freedarich and stiggsen are back on freizeitglauben with more dreamy and dubby minimal entertainment. two tracks full of rich textures and subtle melodic seduction to pleasure your senses. and since the ep already miracously found its into the groove charts, it was time to finally release these amazing tracks to have a happy transition from the last open air afterhour to the upcoming autumn.

we first discovered young glasweigian talent barrientos in 2012 via the always on point synthglasgow.com blog. his debut mix for them effortly mixed tracks from atjazz and matthew styles to loco dice, vince watson and steve rschmad and took the listener from the early bounce as the club doors open right through to hands-in-the air madness of a packed dancefloor. we loved it. he alsoreleased the good-time, sun-soaked sky ep (for free via soundcloud) around the same time and the quality of both his music and production really stood out from the crowd.

part 2 concludes killawatts largest body of music to date, the opposing rhetoric ep, a 6 track opus of truly progressive uk underground sound that melds his influences from dubstep and techno with expansive, high-tension sound design. the eps second triplet of beats feature his most overtly techno-focussed sounds yet, expanding his horizons and dropping the pace down to 125bpm, and delivers punishing dancefloor rigidity and bass-immersed sonic force. on black air, killawatt threads tightly coiled syncopations above a grinding 4×4 structure, and delivers a near-cacophonic but ultimately heavy full-sensory overload. the flipside is divided between the churning swell of dark industrial aesthetics on art of discourse, and the moody permutations of reactive technique, where rippling melodic shimmers provide accentuation to its pounding sub-density.

the a side opens with redence delusions introduced by a delay metallic notes, and a line grating background that give entry to a hard nut to crack hype joining the above sequence to form the groove. the delays become more important as the track progresses, and more incisive percussion, dance inducing wilder. the second track on this side sagae has been granted to tomohiko sagae, the japanese producer emerges on the scene to give it a fresh industrial sounds dark dye forcefully included. catalog is part of the prestigious british label rodz-konez, in addition to works published in huehelix and atrocity. we present a cut with a pounding bass drum rhythmic against a distorted sequence taken from a radar air booming steel industry, and dark piercing screams that increase the intensity of its entirety through the plug-in more severe. a full-blown rebellion industrial sounds with those harmonics so peculiar that offers japanese school.

an entirely new label with fresh artists from any direction. both tracks compiled on this release are deep and spheric in their mood, similar in style, but rather different and special in their shapes of individuality. the a-side delivers a slightly straight and powerful track from alma. carried by soft moog-basses and playful spheric breaks in addition to an authentic summer groove it is definitely suitable to create open-air feeling - a glistening interpretation of a green morning. gebby dibson contributed an emotional and slow house production to the b-side of this release. in so doing, they patterned pretty versatile varieties of electronic styles. in this case its hard to classify, but joyful to listen to… just beautiful.

a quick listen to the radio suggests that disco is back, not that it ever went away here at retrospective and over the past few months we have been proud to work with some of the biggest names on the scene including heion, hardway bros and ajello. still there is certainly something in the air and so what better time to welcome back to the labels spanish king of the re-edits, rayko, with a stunning new 4 track ep.

the flames still burn white hot on friedas musics first record. this seems to be no reason not to throw more explosives on top. with the elephant carousel ep the second label maker don ramon inspires a dance carousel that makes even the most peaceful pachyderms on friedas soil rotate. all four tracks are infectious to body and soul. each for itself an original. all four tracks extensively tested on the party crowd by aunt friedas nephew. rather in a club night or at a funny after hour- hands were in the air and the corner of the mouths were rising high. a very special delight for the friends of the upper class reduction surely is the argenis britos remix of the track wild goats. all in all definitely an ep that streches the trunk in the sky!

following on from his long awaited album ku:palm in november of last year, we now see its lead track pyramid get a vinyl release on photeks own label, photek productions. the eastern instrumentation and spacey beats may not be apt for every dance floor, but for fans of modus operandi era photek, pyramid is an essential tune. on the flip we have oshun, another track from ku:palm this time remixed by beneath, a producer that began making waves last year with a series of 12 inches on his own label, no symbols and a cracking mix for fact mag. he has gone on to release the illusions ep on dusk & blackdowns keysound recordings, as well as a 12 inch on pinchs influential tectonic recordings. mixing the darkest elements of funky, dub and syncopated grime with a distinctly uk edge, beneaths complex layered beats result in a truly unique sound that is a perfect matched to remix fellow experimentalist photek. a young producer that clearly knows his shit, beneath is a breath of fresh air.

theres a feeling... a sense of urgency in the air... things are going wrong and some things have never been right

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. a brand new act, does not compute lean towards the classic sounds of old - but with first rate production that is very much cutting edge. invoking the underground sounds first pioneered on v by the likes of artificial intelligence, does not compute are a breath of fresh air for the dnb scene.
