schmer-007 smoking is still bad for you volume 1 is here and contains old school and new cool tracks from all the original schmer culprits plus some loops from our new friends. dietrich schoenemann and prototype 909 dug their tracks out of their vast archives of unreleased originals. dj rx-5 and bpmf delivered some hot new schmers to get us moving again. for the last 20 years weve all been tormented by the great issues facing mankind and most vexing among them of course was when will the next schmer record finally come out? i am happy to say that the answer, my record distributing friend, is now! prototype 909 demands that you ( redacted ) the volume! a track recorded in 1997 and finally getting released for the first time here. prototype 909 was a group from new york that made techno in the 90s. since then, the three members of this group all went on to do things. #truefacts dietrich schoenemann has been so busy being one of the last men cutting all the records in the world that he hasnt had time to organize his catalog of unreleased gems. i distracted him with the old look over there trick and stole 8 feet from him while he wasn t looking. (hopefully he didn t recognize it while he was mastering it) the last schmer vinyl was dj rx-5 a taste for crap ep from the then moscow based very underground dj compass vrubell. nina kraviz thought it was so crappy she put a track from it on fabric 91: nina kraviz, so i asked alexey to make some more crap. he did it his shway and this is the result. ( ps he still has all the patterns for the rx-5 from the original release so remaster, remixes and rereleases are in schmer s future, huzzah!) bpmf the original schmer artist had nothing better to do so he kommt back and gave us this track. we love to torture the engineer so we just had to include some loops: rhizome is the alter-ego of moscow wunderkind nikita zabelin. philly based hero/victim has been victimizing soundsystems up and down the east coast with his mad live performances. the wise caucasian is a pseudonym for some super famous london based producer and label owner, or at least thats what he claimed when i picked up his bar tab.

return to planet alpha is a collection of elegant techno tracks which instead of following the now so popular dark and destructive path focuses on daily moods and airy atmosphere, which is closer to open air and lounge than to sweaty pits of contemporary rave. but that doesnt mean that the twelve tracks are just indistinctive background music. for one thing, tyrel is a master of slick and tight beat foundations of kick drums and bass, often smoothed out with cool synth pads, onto which he layers all kinds of rhythmical chains, subtle melodic ideas and sounds ranging from vintage synths and industrial bits to organic textures and even field recordings.

following his first ep for accidental jnr in the summer bambooman is now back with something entirely different. the downtempo experimental designs of the feel ep give way to his latest offering shudder. available on 12 and digital the 4 tracks of shudder weave through a club music tapestry like a chainsaw through custard. the opening and title track is hard to describe, a mix of off kilter synth stabs and hammering snare that routes you to the floor - its one of those tracks to whip out of your bag to remind the crowd they have no idea what is coming next. track 2 grasp with a blissful detroit groove under deep rich melting chords is a perfect blend of early funk house style and super crisp new production. side b opens with m1 a lazy floor track with washes of bells, static and detuned synth above a bed of solid kick and shuffling bass. finally kyrian closes proceedings, another club friendly slice (despite being in a 7&#8260.8 time signature), the track could have led the ep in its own right but feels like the perfect bookend with its shifting almost garage like 2-step feel and glancing vocal hook.

mihai popoviciu has carved out a reputation for being one of the most innovative producers of electronic music active in europe today. the man from romania has established himself both as a highly respected producer releasing on labels such as highgrade, international gigolo and dessous and as a killer dj performing all over the world. fiction is his 4th release on poker flat recordings, and delivers four distinct flavours to sink your teeth into. i should is a slinky groover, with a slippery, evolving bassline, tight, funky percussion and a sultry female vocal. working just as effectively early in a set as a peak time moment, its bound to get rinsed in the coming months. twisted is a little harder - a straighter beat signals a more heads down approach, and the bassline is sure to trigger some dancefloor scenes wherever it gets played. next up is title track fiction which perhaps makes a reference to mihais background, with fragments of eastern european melodies woven into the beautiful synth work, all tied together over a spacey yet driving rhythm track. last but by no means least is interconnected - a straight up deep bomb with echoes of classic chicago deep and acidic house in its warm and sensual vibe.

in the last two years, paul régimbeau had put his most personal and earliest musical project mondkopf in stand-by mode. the rich arrangement work that defined his sound wasnt fitting his desire of simplistic intensity anymore. his different collaborations (autrenoir, violent magic orchestra with vampilla & pete swanson, foudre!, oiseaux-tempêtes) forced him to explore new aspects of playing electronic music like a regular band member. the young producer was experimenting being a musician and embracing the experience. but after a year without composing, things changed on the tragic night of november 13th.
on this very night, the parisian set up machines he had acquired in the last few months and started improvising what became the first song on his new album: they fall, but you dont. since that moment, paul regularly spent nights experimenting and recording what he felt at the time. while previous records reflected months of fine-tuning, these songs represent the mood of one evening, one night, the ones when you surrender yourself to the melancholy of the moment. much like a diary, the album is a compilation of these moments that escape reality in a chaotic and dark year.

its a pleasure to introduce tony rainwater, undoubtedly the most productive and creative savage weve come across recently. see usually we dont do this, lehult is a crew affair, but this guy left us no choice. being a music enthusiast, dj and dancer for a long time, tony has only most recently picked up producing his own music, yet at a stunning rate: when we first asked him for a demo, three months after he started producing, he swiftly dropped us a set of twenty-five tracks, another set of fifty more soon followed. his productions are straight rough edged, no-prisoners-taken jams, combining samples from the most far-flung corners of his eclectic music collection. his magical patchwork wild style is on full display on his debut rockberry jam ep for lehult. the a-side takes us through the lighter side of his repertoire with the title tracks slow building house groove, some dizzy medieval monk grooves on to all the world and seductive r&b on lay it on the line. on the flip operalight irresistible groove and black dream flowers provide some darker moments, before alone closes on a soft note. the vinyl version includes an extra goodie after the runouts. tony is now a fixed member of the crew already and were proud to have him and his crazy energy on the team. this wont be the last youll hear of him.

paris, 1954. henri-françois rey wrote the thema of the piece la bande à bonnot and asked boris vian to write the songs in order it to become a musical comedy. la bande a bonnot was the name of a french illegal anarchist group. as soon as the piece was played at théâtre du quartier latin, french authorities made it being stopped. musical parts have been lost. 1971, jacques canetti has been told the original handwritten lyrics of the boris vian songs have been found again. jacques canetti asked louis bessières to re create music parts. 1975, jacques canetti released this record with songs being performed by judith magre, yves robert, lucienne vernay, pierre jamet, kim ibarra, maurice barrier & cécile vassort + 2 bonus tracks whose lyrics were suppsoed to be too for the original spectacle.

over the years, lo recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. to mark 20 years of lo recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. this is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans mr. g and k15. a learning curve is exactly as the title suggests, an educational experience to un- derstand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. as avid users and fans of the mpc, as well as being extremely busy, both mr. g and k15 were given the same samples dug out of the lo recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. this was quick- ly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. the results come in the form of mr. gs mesmerising navigate and k15s introspective the guilt within, two very individual tracks in their own rights. navigate is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. with its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. on the flip, the guilt within takes a turn to more ominous terri- tories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to navigate. a beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a puls- ing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.

new band name, new lp, the former max graef band toured and worked on new music all year. musical progress, and the impression of not enough edge and rawness in a lot of recent music, inspired and motivated a majority of the recording. the band has grown as a unit and wrote a lot of material together this year in late night sessions. during 2 weeks of recording the new songs in the studio the goal was to try all sorts of instruments, amps and effects and be open to any combination of sounds. furthermore, they and engineer lutz fahrenkrog-petersen tried to capture and maintain the raw feeling of the live recordings using almost exclusively analog pedals and racks as well as keeping the editing of the recordings to a minimum. although bands like et cetera (wolfgang dauner), embryo or xhol have heavily infuenced max graef and his band, the result turned out very original ranging from distorted jazz-rock to experimental soul, electronic percussion workouts to free sound experiments and psychedelic rock. with some tracks being around 14 minutes long, it is better to let the music speak for itself though.
