vinalog’s new ep on relative delivers raging club music with 4 cuts balancing the uk and berlin sound with a masterful touch. the two mixes of “flashback” on the a side provide raw, nasty house with a punchy groove and luscious vocal samples. b side sees two variations of the same motif: “recall 97” has strong uk bass heavy influences with an acid touch and spanish-mumbling vocals, while “redub 97” is a more stripped down version of the latter able to deliver for the dance floor with a more broken-beat rhythmic pattern.

hey everyone, dont be alarmed as we understand that you just heard of us a few weeks back. here we are again with another doobified doozie of a 12inch. from the furthest reaches of the canadian west coast comes a concoction by three well known faces that have a long history of working together, they prefer to remain anonymous for this 12inch for reasons beyond us. were not that good at keeping secrets and have a suspicion that you hear the rambling house that is emitted from this trio brings to your ears will recall something very familiar. johnny lumière and the triads, originally conceived as side characters of the adventures of t-bar and salary man cartoon (never published). the music was recorded during break intervals in the cartoon writing sessions (still seeking illustrator). file this under mystified house with a splash of sunshine. ps:weve been doing our own printed sleeves for the last few records from a really cool print house here in berlin. we think they look unique as they are a print/ fold out designed by our friend dave girard. people seem to be into them and figured we should say that as we are only doing limited runs of them.

the flawed wonders that yair elazar glotman puts forth on his latest opus i know no weekend are the coldest dreams you would ever wish to immerse yourself in. they recall echoes of echoes, forced into slowly struggling shapes, ghosts of memories, whispers of life from another dimension. shamanic-repetitive beats shift slowly beneath echoing bells and fragments of past transmissions. overwhelmingly, one is taken into upon a winding mental path, with no clear resolution in sight, although the journey is ever-evolving and new.

for the opening ep from too many squares, frank butters manages to gene-splice together the raw dna from all of the ugly-beautiful sounds present in the birth of modern dance music. -conditioning for solitude- is the hum of dark tubes, the slice and hiss of sharp synthesised percussion and the scream of blissful dementia. the mutant that existed for a brief and joyous frozen moment while disco was still birthing house. -body burn” is the tropics with a black sun and africanism with a stopwatch instead of a heart. recalling experimentalist forays by the likes of liaisons dangereuses, patrick cowley and karen finley, the 2 originals on offer manage to recall the raw passion of an era without feeling contrived or derivative. the ep is rounded off by sheila fleurraters remix of * 3 minute warning* which continues the pioneer-ist motif, albeit allying itself with a much more early industrial aesthetic.

evan caminitis slow but steady progression towards electronic music from sand-swept guitar drone mirrors the pace of the music he makes. it has been measured, each move well-considered and clearly intentional. caminiti has immersed himself in electronic production on meridian, creating organic sounds through his machines, patching sounds that recall the brassy resonance of horns and hazy choral clusters. synthesizers hiss and crackle under layers of reverb and fog. sounds undulate and implode in upon themselves, with bursts of noise dropping in and out to create shadows of rhythm. caminitis electronic systems do not run autonomously - the sounds heard on meridian required real-time human interaction to bring them to life, and that human touch is essential to the mysterious atmosphere he produces on this new album.

steve murphys curiously long shadow casts itself ever further over the realms of gritty house and techno with a barn-storming follow up on the lobster theremin core series, this time ratcheting up the tempo and rhythm to epic levels. shed-esque kicks thunder over asteroid-crumbling basslines, crackling wooden percussion is slammed into the muggy dirt and leaves, seriously filthy, rolling numbers for the all night crew.
*uk treatment* kicks and thumps in all the right places, with a stuttering synth stab loop and vocals giving it some serious peak time currency. *spleen* is all sludgy, skittering mpc business, while *rules* goes off-key chicago and *total recall 2084* swims around, pestered in the mud until a lonely, droning piano key scares away the flanged swarm of wasps and noise.

the original he serves up here is my groove, a firmly rooted and solid bit of house music with classically inclined vocal chants by gjeazon from crazy like a fox records, that recall eddie amador s biggest cut. subtle details embellish the groove and make it all the more standout, and those deep looping basslines really pull you into the middle of the track, which also has airy hi hats and a sleazy sense of funk. the first remix comes from afterparty founder, rinse fm radio host, former usher tour dj, southern fried affiliate and pioneer collaborator doorly, who also runs his own pigeon hole label. his remix smooths out the kinks and simmers a grainy groove for seven shuffling, seductive minutes. rolling effects and a big breakdown are sure to make for some fist pumping moments in the club. last to remix is play it down producer and foremost danish dj christian nielsen. he does so with an increased sense of urgency and his track hits that bit harder as a result, all thanks to a dirty down low bassline that just rolls and rolls.

out of sight , the title track, is an elegant house exercise that takes you back to san francisco. recall is a brain bomb, hypnotic and psychedelic but with lots of energy, and has already been supported by the likes of raresh, rhadoo, djebali and apollonia, and is definately the cut to go in this record. to finish things off, romania s rising star mp, known for his works on soulsity and meterze, shows us his own view on out of sight , based on dynamic drums and a with an amazing bass leading the whole thing.

next up on baum is a well-known artist under his new synonym rcd, with his first release on the label. the 4 track ep offers deepness and heavy stabs, and is a blend of dub techno, deep house and old school detroit strings. absolute killer ep!

r&s keep things in the family with mpia3s brother tessela dropping his debut ep for the label. since 2011, ed russell has been moulding a style of dance music as tessela that has evolved to become a distinctly futuristic animal that is equal parts rave, jungle and techno as it incorporates classic breaks into delirious new mutations. the three tracks on this ep all follow on from his superb *hackney parrot* track but evolve his sound even further. nancys pantry combines bruising kick drums and some slick editing of the think break, before plunging headlong into thundering techno. horizons percolating hi hats and rough-hewn percussion roll off repeating chords that recall the heady days of rave. gateways uncomplicated arrangement of high hats, sub bass, siren like synths and quaking kick drums rattle through the tracks chassis and club soundsystems. early supporters to the tracks include ben ufo, pariah, surgeon, pearson sound and paul woolford, testement to what might be tesselas most lethal offering yet.

as rough as beautiful, the autochtone figure invites us to wonder on the sum and substance of life. he offers us an excursion into untouched sanctuaries, dream areas where music and dance recall sudden flashes of primal recollection. unchained, he teaches us to explore forms, rhythms, balances and shades during the journey of life. from his everlasting roots, we extract the essence to draw our vinyl grooves, developing a playground of audio promenades around the tones of repeated electronic dance gatherings.

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. r&s welcome new signing mpia3 to the label with a doublepack of uncompromising techno. mpia3 is a production alias of truss (perc trax) who has just the two eps preceding this on shifteds avian label. >your orders< see him continue down the path of raw, industrial, seriously funky, acid techno. his signature overdriven kicks recall classic robert armani and his sound harks back to the days of mike dearbourn and djax up beats, and the classic uk techno of ben sims and james ruskin but the tracks on >your orders< could have only been made in 2012. this is heavyweight music built for proper soundsystems and dark rooms. the six tracks on the ep straddle different tempos with some slick drum programming, but are tied together with some razor sharp synths and a healthy dose of acid.

nao katafuchi is a new york based japanese artist. living in lower manhattan for more that 20 years, nao has made an internationally interesting mini album lost somewhere between the future and the past. all of the music was made using a semi modern groovebox, guitar, and voice. this musical combination created a new wave cyberpop atmosphere that would not be out of place in a bar in liquid sky, blade runner, or total recall. trashy japanese retro-future pop out of new york city!

room 315 step up to the fledgling kinfolk imprint for three tasty psyche-edit numbers, opener >the eon men< sets the standard with its robust bass pulse driving a slow beat forward on a flurry of digitised synth solo and live guitar action, whilst >night on the shore< begins as a sinister number with lurching bass, but soon opens itself up with its solitary guitar line and floating synth pads which recall the end credits to an 80s thriller, all driven along with minimal 808 percussion. on the flip, edit masters soft rocks provide their own version of >the eon men<, taking the grizzled quality of the original and creating their own minimal wave inspired reworking, with a brittle bassline joined by shady echoes of dub music in its cavernous backdrop and savage low end.

following a pair of fine releases on fine art and under the shade, james johnston delivers another superb ep for no matter what. >after everything< is a masterfully created slice of rolling deep house flirting with disco styles, punctuated with snippets of disco guitar licks and dubbed out vocal samples, all held together with a sumptuous chord sequence. the comparatively upbeat tempo rhythm and deep subs of >lost the house keys< which follows comes as something of a surprise, and the chopped up piano which causes the track to erupt into a flurry of jacking rhythms only add to the proto-chi house mood. the rest of the tracks continue with the same kind of upbeat pace, with >get back to the feeling< interlacing a variety of female vocal samples within its 909 rhythms, and >xtc< injecting some serotonin into the ep with its razor sharp synth stabs and snares, whose rhythms recall the deadly precision of marc kinchens early productions...

among the original tracks you will find two remixes featured by two five stars artists: brendon moeller and elef, who have remixed plombir with two very differents results. brendon moellers music is well known in the scene, with releases in third ear, mule and echocord. he made a solid version of plombir giving it a super dub feelings. on the other side elef (dirt crew, back and forth) just twisted the original track with a superb interpretation adding some moody grooves on it.

in its original form, holy ghost!s debut album cut >hold my breath< is, pure and simple, great dancefloor electronic pop, in the hands of shadowy duo tiger & woods, the song has been totally reshaped and refracted through 80s r&b radio. they have slowed the pace and inserted synth-funk hot flashes that recall prince – and, no kidding, the time, and jimmy jam & terry lewis – to create a mood that fits comfortably (and pleasurably) within their future boogie m.o. cosmic kids ron poznansky and dan terndrup have taken the track in a more tensely dramatic direction. it might be the vaguely darkened synthline upon which much of that track sits that lends itself to its more intense feel here, and gives it such a pleasant nocturnal feel. finally, theres falty dls re-envisioning, which goes down awfully smooth for a track so full of the big, thick, bumping bass beats. it’s an aural pleasure to find yourself dreamily lost in the brooklyn, new york producer/djs halls of reverberating sound.

dj diamond is 24 year old karlis griffin from the west side of chicago. he has been producing music since the age of 13 and djing since 20, heading the flight muzik clique of footwork producers.

release #8 from german label kitty corner addresses the notion in sizzling, freaky ways that explode the groove and reinvent the funk - thanks to labelmeister axel sohns, bmg aka brachiale musikgestalter (abschuss records), reche & recall (miditonal), fin phranklin aka alec troniq (miditonal) and queaver (coin operated/braincrashed).

following his two recent singles on scubas hotflush recordings, london based george fitzgerald is back with his much-anticipated third release and his debut for aus music. titled silhouette, the three-track ep includes two originals and a remix from american producer john roberts. fitzgerald once again manages to create a world in which garage, dubstep, house, r&b and a host of other musical influences happily co-exist. on silhouette hints of warm acid, layered oscillating synth lines, propulsive beats and fitzgeralds signature use of vocal samples make this a peak time affair, albeit an incredibly lush one. reset is eight minutes of forward thinking uk garage combined with the melodic sensibilities of detroit techno. for the silhouette remix, roberts develops a relentless broken groove, occasionally punctured by brief piano interludes that recall the sounds of his 2011 debut full-length on dial records, glass eights. a breathtaking remix that sounds like nothing else out there at the moment. in addition to silhouette, fitzgerald currently has remixes out for french house producer brawther on secretsundaze and uk bass artist throwing snow, as well as an upcoming ep on hotflush and a track on the labels recent compilation, back and 4th. this year will also bring the founding of man make music, a new label fitzgerald is starting with friends.

remerc is no new face to the scene. he has been active for quite some time in the german techno scene and has recently remixed butchs track >muskatnuss< on the trapez ltd 100 anniversary compilation. he had his breakthrough in 2010 with the track >tiny calf< which ended up on the cocoon compilation >party animals< mixed by marco carola and nick curly. remerc opens his release with >ruhewolf<, a restless funkedelic rocker with a beat that juggles elements in a loose and totally cool way. the track is spiced up with elements of surreal bliss and could go on forever were there not the limitations of the vinyl. on the flipside we find an hanne & lore remix that tightens and fattens up the beat and pimps up the basslines. adding some twisted sounds ... making it a clubber par excellence. >just a bards tale< is a unique remerc track and stands out from all the productions he has done so far. here new wave coloured edgy vocals meet a post-detroit string-chord arrangement. sounds adventurous and daring? well it is to some degree... but recall >no more words< by carl craig from 1991 but executed in a dead modern way.

dj t.s pleasure principle immersed itself, wholly and rapturously, into electronic musics legacy of soul, and helped to usher in a new period of groove-heavy deepness. like an antidote to clinical club sounds, album standout tracks like sense inject some well needed groove into the dancefloor. the maxi version of sense partners faraway melodies with james teejs breathy vocals that get up close and personal. a deep electro funk bass riff establishes its intent, and snaky percussion leads to a more structured house beat. piping flute sounds and drum echoes add an element of swing, while analogue handclaps and the tracks distinctive bass line recall its retro pedigree. newcomers tale of us continue their journey into dark minimalism, with a remix that isolates the percussion and vocals, shrouding both in reverb for maximum atmospheric effect. a sense of unease pervades through the saturated bassline and slow delayed handclaps, creating frosty mists and dark corners within the synth-tech house arrangement. hot natured duo lee foss and jamie jones next bring their sunny midas touch to the proceedings. teasing out the intro with high hats and layered vocals, a sense of anticipation is high. it blooms into sleek, skittering beats and otherworldly sounds, with a bass line thats been cut & paste back into place, before it delves deeper into a menacing deep bass synth rumble. the club version begins with a kick, deep echoes and meek percussive sounds that loop upwards through the scale. the distinctive bass line and handclaps begin, then teejs unadulterated vocals are pushed to the fore. brittle metallic synth flares appear from below the bass-heavy beat and recede again, ending in an electro-disco retro groove

aldo cadiz, chilean dj and producer, head of disco royal music and resident of santiago beats already crossed our paths with his collaborations with basti grub on desolat x007. he returns to desolat with solo productions and here you have chance to dive into aldo’s world of dance music where south american rhythms meet fragments of musical heritage of detroit. mastered with love by enrico mercaldi, the desolat x series continues to release raw tracks that literally invite the dj to play with loops, hooks and create something new. but you can also just put the needle on the colored record and let the groove treat your dancefloor nicely
