it is very difficult to present david duriez without writing an encyclopedic tome as its influence on the house music in france was decisive. since its inception in 1992, david released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, mainly on vinyls on the most renowned labels like 2020vision, ovum, systematic, pokerflat, f communication, under the counter, stickman, crosstown rebels, the end, etc .. (the list is long, see discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest artists (think moby, dj sneak, gemini, dj hell, llorca, telex, random factor, johnny fiasco, paul johnson, jori hulkkonen, ralph lawson, random factor, kenny hawkes or mr.c). founder of the label brique rouge and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as robsoul with phil weeks, freak n chic with dan ghenacia (from apollonia) or rz muzik. at a time when david had federated online the cream of the house producers via a forum (far and long before social networks), ivan smagghe had nicknamed him -the producer of the producers.- , a true house music activist, but most of all david duriez is a devastating dancefloor dj, he did several tours around the world and played in some of the biggest clubs in the world between 1995 and 2010. truly one of the most important players in the french electro scene, david is back on tracks after a few years hyatus. but don t call it a comeback because he has never really gone awol, he has been watching the scene and now he s back in the studio. you can expect a (very) long serie of releases for 2016, you have been warned!

two of paris’ original old school bad boys get together for the third in their special series of collabs. with fresh new releases already on the streets through their own labels, apollonia and adult only, dan ghenacia and chris carrier step up to the legendary music for freaks with a brand new collection of delectable dance floor delights. music for freaks is back after a long break and this release couldn’t be anymore fitting for the highly-respected label’s relaunch. full of vibrant flavours and addictive rhythms, dan and chris bless mff with some irresistible paris funk. kicking off with ‘vaporized’, a catchy little groover with dried out percussion which slaps down over a sultry bassline. wibbly-wobbly fx combine with mysterious chimes and sketchy radio interference to create an odd atmosphere. then we have ‘the green bell’, a squelchy heads-down vibe provider. ‘wind and fire’ brings the ep to a close and continues the duo’s use of strange sounds to great effect. this is no run-of-the-mill 4x4 production, there’s depth, subtle progression and hypnotic rhythms as only two seasoned pros like dan and chris can muster.an instant classic, what more would you expect from music for freaks?...

the 75th ep on moon harbour is one that connects the past with the present: the release is made up of three remixes and re-edits of classic tracks by label boss matthias tanzmann. charged with serving up these goods are one third of apollonia, namely frenchman shonky, saved records boss nic fanciulli and his brother mark and, finally, matthias himself updates one of his own cuts.

out of sight , the title track, is an elegant house exercise that takes you back to san francisco. recall is a brain bomb, hypnotic and psychedelic but with lots of energy, and has already been supported by the likes of raresh, rhadoo, djebali and apollonia, and is definately the cut to go in this record. to finish things off, romania s rising star mp, known for his works on soulsity and meterze, shows us his own view on out of sight , based on dynamic drums and a with an amazing bass leading the whole thing.

excellent deep house dbl header <br riding on the back of a surge of interest in de la club, the debut lp from hold youth, comes a smartly picked repress of house don nail. while the duo is known for their eclectic vision of dance music, the first repress on the label ive been there ep is in fact an exemplary example of straight-up, no-fuss house. enjoying a modest comeback of late both as a producer and dj, nail originally released full of beestone promise ep on diy discs in 97. the stronger two of the four tracks will be repressed one on each side, * our love* and * i ve been there*, distinctive for its melodic vocal and recent inclusion in the apollonia fabric 70 compilation. while we have become accustomed to hold youth’s diversification of sounds with the current lp, i ve been there reminds us that a pigeon-holable classic can be highly refreshing
