For a long time, Vidal Benjamin has been getting up early at the weekends. Whether alone or in company, he digs his hands into various crates at record fairs, flea markets or in empty attics, to uncover records that have long been forgotten, ignored or even despised. Among the small circle of Parisian diggers, his reputation precedes him: it is he who finds and it is he who shares. It is not unusual that in his wake, one finds a certain record long lost, left behind as a special gift from Vidal. He likes to share so that others may discover. And it is for that same reason that he regularly sleeps late, playing records in clubs at night, where he follows a similar path: altruistic, educational and festive. It’s no surprise, then, that his first compilation goes by the fitting title of Disco Sympathie.
