Dr Syntax, a largely unknown figure from the UK underground, opens with The Shining (23rd Street Bass Mix) — a track that sounds as urgent and alive today as it did back then. Chestnut’s Pure Moods follows: early Dutch house in its purest form, tribal, hypnotic, and built for the small hours.

The B-side answers with new material that honours the same spirit. Rotterdam’s Ben Diggins contributes Something Strange? — euphoric, funky and shot through with that unmistakable early-nineties energy. Closing the record is Your Love by Michel de Hey, Rotterdam legend, scene architect and a man who has been shaping the city’s dancefloors since before most DJs owned a pair of headphones.
